How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5803461 / WH23X10030 Drain Pump

After watching a couple videos on YouTube on diagnosing problems, I then ordered a new pump and motor. Shipment was very prompt. Installation was easy. Problem solved! 

Replaced the pump. 

My husband's recently had back surgery and couldn't bend down to do the replacement. I watched a youtube video and it seemed pretty straight forward. Was able to complete the repair. Pretty simple.

I spoke with someone about the probable cause of the leak and they thought it sounded like the drain pump so with recommendations from a couple of friends, I decided to order the part and used the helpful videos to replace the part myself. It took me about 30 minutes to replace the pump and the washing machine is working great!! I’m sure I saved a lot on labor cost!!

The challenge was figuring out what part we needed. This lead to having to empty the tub full of laundry & water to remove the part. Ordering the part was quick, it delivered as stated and replacing the part went smooth. An extra hand using the pliers on the hose clip helped secure the part in place. 

Replaced the drain pump. I followed the video on how to do it. There was more water that ran out than showed in the video. The clamps were harder to move (I am 72 years old and have weak wrists). But I did manage to change the pump and it is working fine with no noise. I looked at the old one after I was all done, only to find a piece of plastic loose in the impeller. I think the old pump is probably good but I was not about to change the whole thing out again. Overall, the replacement went smoothly. 

Remove clip rings, used a wet vac to suck up water once the top hose was being removed. Remove and replace the pump
