How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2042901 / WE4X881 Dryer Rotary Start Switch

Order replacement parts... Received replacement parts. Switched out the new parts for old, broken parts - Done!!! 

It could not have been simpler. I typed in the dryer model number, and found a short video that explained how to take the old switch off ad replace it. I took off the old switch, photographed how it was wired so I could correctly rewire the new one, then typed in THAT model number. Two days later, I had the new switch. I got it rewired--did have to have a little assistance from a family member to get it slotted in correctly, but I spent 30-some dollars on a new switch rather than 400-some on a new dryer! I used Appliance PartsPros.com to order parts for an even older range/oven. You can get the parts you need AND clear concise instructions on what to do with them when you get them. Based on these two experiences, I would rate AppPartsPros a 50 on a scale of 1-10. 

I put the new part on. It was very easy.

I took a chance and ordered the rotary start switch first . I did not have a meter here to check so I gambled on that one . After getting that piece on I realized the only other thing had to be the door switch . The part got here in one day and I got it on quick and the dryer works good .You guys are very helpful and the videos got me the access to the dryer I needed . You saved us quite a bit on a service call and I am appreciative of your help . I will definitely recommend you to anyone ...John Frerker 

I replaced the switch and knob. The only tool needed was a star screwdriver. 

Removed the top panel, 4 screws and removed the switch. Very easy 

Took the GE Dryer model number online and google'ed it. Several on-line parts companies had the model number. Appliance Parts Pros had a very nice interactive parts diagram that took me right to the part I needed. Compared prices at some of the other on-line stores and you were a few bucks cheaper, reasonable shipping, and very fast (2 days) for standard rate. Part was a perfect match and installed easily. Great overall experience with AppliancePartsPros.com. Great job folks! 

Replaced the switch and the knob. Easy to remove once I figured out that the switch turns about a quarter of a turn and then comes off of the bracket. 

My husband unscrewed the back of the dryer and we laid the front down. Getting the Rotary Switch out was a challenge but I finally got it out. It is very tight. We then put the new one in and plugged in the wires to the switch. We plugged in the dryer to make sure it worked and then put the back on and put the dryer back in place. Note: The video for this is really nothing at all like my dryer so it was not much help. Thanks.
