How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP7215773 / WD21X24901C Service Machine Control

This appliance was new about 4 years ago in an apartment I hadn't moved into yet...it had never been used...I moved in this spring and the dishwasher would not work...after a lot of time spent searching for troubleshooting info online, I concluded I needed to replace the main control board at the bottom front of the appliance...I bought the part and installed it myself...I chose not to completely remove the machine and worked from the floor...not sure I'd recommend that...it's difficult...it's now working but I've only run 3 loads so far...in my opinion, the machine is way too complicated...I had replaced the top control board about a year ago when I first tried a load...when it works, it's good...slow, but quiet and does a good job...but again, the design is too electronic and fussy...I will buy simpler next time...! 

I checked breakers, switches etc. looked online and found several resources indicating control board failure. The search began. Found the boards in stock here and at a fair price! All others were 25% or more higher and out of stock. Appliance Part Pro’s SHIPPED IT OUT SAME DAY ORDER WAS PLACED!!!! I had the new part the next day! WOW!!! Just in time for Thanksgiving dishes!!!! 

Bought service machine control. Removed the two screws that hold dishwasher in place, slid it out and leaned it back against cabinet to make access to bottom easier and swapped out control after unplugging. 

After watching the video and reading reviews, I was confident that I would be able to complete the task myself. I had installed the dishwasher myself but not sure of the location of the part, the video from your site along with its removal made it easy for me to see how the circuit board needed to be remove. I did not remove the dishwasher as shown but I could locate the screws and connectors and remove them to access the board while the dishwasher stayed in place and the power had been shut off. Although a little cramped I successfully removed and installed the new board. The dishwasher was operating properly within 1-1 1/2 hours. 

Replaced the control board, had to call customer service and she was very helpful. 

I ordered the main control board. After reading what others had wrote about their experience. I followed the Youtube video and walked right through the repair. The dishwasher is back to working Fine again. Thanks for the help. 

Replaced the control board. 

I read online about the issue with my dishwasher. Then, I went through some simple procedures to identify the root problem and error code. The solution was to replace the Service Machine Control (computer board). I ordered the part and the replacement took me less than 15 minutes. Problem solved and dishwasher is working again! I shut off power to the dishwasher at the breaker box. I used a nut driver to remove 4 screws and access the tray where the SMC is located. I disconnected the computer wires, removed the tray, used needle nose pliers to pinch the plastic fasteners that hold the SMC board in place so the old board could be removed without damaging the plastic fasteners. Then I put the new board in place, reconnected the computer wires, replaced the tray, screwed the 4 screws back into place and the job was complete. 

Replaced main board, took about 30 minutes. Easy. 

After replacing the control panel WD21X24901C with a new one, the dishwasher is back to normal operation. The do-it-yourself project saved me from buying a new dishwasher.
