Pardee W Shenandoah , IA October 04, 2014 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator ESS25LSNABS Frost build up on ice dispenser door (flapper) Installed a new "flapper" and spring but still had the same problem, e.g flapper would not close unless I reached in from the outside. Determined it must be the solenoid for the flapper so ordered one this date 04 October. Not to disappointed it was not the flapper as the old flapper and spring needed to be replaced and the compartment needed cleaning. Left the bezel off and covered access sides with tape until the solenoid arrives. Main reason I purchased from Appliance Pros is that they have a video on how to access these components. Sarah S San Diego , CA November 22, 2016 Appliance: General Electric Refrigerator GSC23LSRCSS Ice maker door flap would not shut resulting in ice and frost build up and ice maker dispenser inoperable I found a repair story on your site that sounded almost exactly like mine. I was planning on buying a new solenoid but noticed the two additional parts that were recommended in the repair story to replace at the same time. When my parts arrived (very quick delivery), I leveraged the video that shows how to replace the solenoid. It ended up being very easy and took about 30 minutes total to replace the crank, spring and solenoid. The main issue had been diagnosed correctly in the repair story I read - the solenoid was completely rusted which didn't allow for the dispenser flap to shut completely. A very good experience overall. Read More... 1 People found this story helpful Do-It-Yourself Rating: Repair Time Estimate: 15-30 minutes Tools: Screwdrivers
David C Jacksonville , FL July 16, 2016 Ice door malfunctioning The solenoid was the issue but since I had to take it apart, decided to replace the ice door assembly too. I used the supplied video to get an idea of how it went together. Only difference was that my solenoid had an extra screw and the head was rusted. This added a few minutes as I had to back it out carefully. I also took 10 extra minutes to do a thorough cleaning while I had it apart. The repair start to finish was under 15 by itself.
