The Door Recess Spring is an OEM replacement part for GE side-by-side refrigerators. It sits within the icemaker door frame to control movement and allow smooth closing/opening of the access point.

Causes of a bad icemaker door recess spring include wear and tear of thin metal coils repeatedly compressing over many years of filling cycles. Exposure to humidity intrusions from melting ice accumulates oxidation shortening spring elasticity.

Symptoms of a bad icemaker door recess spring include:

  • Difficulty opening and shutting the icemaker access door securely
  • Excessive slamming noise caused by abrupt closing
  • Sagging or improper alignment of the door against the frame
  • Struggles retaining positioning of the transparent plastic doorway

This genuine GE replacement spring is compatible with Hotpoint, RCA and Kenmore models.

For Ge Door Recess Spring (Part Number: OEM11010474)

Peggy for Model Number PSI23MGMBBB

How do I get the front cover off of the ice/water touchscreen to replace the ice maker assembly and spring? The entire section looks like one piece instead of like in the videos. Do I need to unscrew anything regarding the light bulb area or just know where the tabs are to insert the putty knife to release the front cover. I have the model where I could put in wood inserts to match my cabinets above and below the ice/water dispenser touch screen area.

Peggy, to remove the dispenser user interface, there will be three little divots under the display that can be used to press up on the lock tab securing the display to the housing while the refrigerator power supply cord is unplugged. This will allow the display to rotate out from the bottom so that the dispenser housing can be accessed to remove it. The following link can be used as a reference to gain access to and remove the dispenser housing. https://www.appliancepartspros.com/ge-housing-shield-disp-wr17x11170-ap3187506.html#autoplay

John, On the bottom hinge of the french assembly, there is a hole that one side of the spring goes into and then there is a hole on the french assembly itself that the other side will go into. The spring portion should face inward toward the french assembly.

Dan, with the power supply to the dishwasher turned off, the front panel and console would need to be removed. From there, the top cross plate on the console would need to be removed to allow access to the spring and handle to change out the spring.

Jack, the door flapper WR17X11653 should be inspected for any sections that may be bent inwards excessively as this can cause the door to not close fully and leave a small gap. It is possible that the solenoid is catching the arm and not allowing the door to shut fully. Also, if the spring was not turned one full revolution, it will not create a full tension to allow the spring to pull the door shut fully.

James, Open the freezer door and look at the ice door and see if it is sealing. If not then most likely that is the reason for the moisture build up and the solenoid and ice door should solve the problem. WR17X11653 WR62X10055

Tommy, If you use "crushed ice" a lot, the chute can develop an "ice dam" at the bottom of the chute and keep the door flapper from sealing, intermittently. Then check the door crank, spring and solenoid, most likely a weak spring. check and clean the linkage and dash pot on the solenoid assembly and check everything for excess wear and tear.

Hello Simon. Make sure the flap is not damaged. If not, then you will need to replace the spring on the unit.

Greengarnet, You will want to check to make sure that the ice door is closing all the way.If it is not then you may need a new dispenser solenoid. Check the solenoid for rust on the shaft. If there is then replace the solenoid. The solenoid part number is WR62X10055.
