How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP3670155 / WR02X10585 Refrigerator Ice Dispenser Door Recess Spring

Installed new ice door assembly, ice deflector and ice funnel. Ordered new solenoid but did not need it and door recess spring had hook on wrong side so returned spring and solenoid. Repair video was great and very helpful will order parts for appliances again if needed. 

After a struggle, I finally got the door opened. Since the dishwasher was stainless steel, I had to remove all of screws around the door. The handle actuator was broken. I installed the parts listed and the door would open. However, before you keep the door latch all the way depressed and the door would open. But with the new parts, you have to release the handle a bit before the door will open. I am not sure why 

Replacement of the flapper solenoid (original was not functioning due to rust) and a new flapper enabled restoration of the seal and prevented air in leakage and the frost previously experienced. Many thanks for your “how to” videos and replacement parts identification assistance! 

I was pretty sure the ice "door" was not closing properly allowing the frost to form on the ice delivery parts. Also, on occasion, the ice in the bin would stick together. I looked inside the freezer door and found frost build up that was almost closing off the ice delivery area. So, as I have done in the past, I looked up Appliance Parts Pros online and found the Ice Door Assembly. Then, they give a tutorial on how to fix the issue. Perfect! So, with the fridge being somewhere around 18 years old and still working great, I decided to get the solenoid and closing spring. That way, there would be no issue with the opening and closing of the door. I ordered at 11 AM one day and it arrived at noon the next day. wow, not even "A-Prime" can match that. I keep this web site as a favorite on my computer. 

I replaced the flap, spring, and solenoid. Initially I replaced solenoid only, however this didn't solve my problem. Then I replaced the flap and spring. Problem solved no frosting. I recommend replacing all three together. Online video was very helpful guiding the repairs process. 

Loosened front panel & disconnected electrical board. Removed existing dispenser solenoid, door assembly flap, retainers, and spring and replaced them with new parts. Reassembled. Took about 30 minutes from start to finish. Several videos available online helped quite a bit. Very simple.

I watched the repair video on APP.com and checked the components of the door latch. There are 4 total parts and not knowing which of the 4 I needed, I ordered all of them. Turns out the actuator and the spring were the parts I needed. 

The video provided by Appliance Parts Pros is excellent! I followed its steps. The one problem I had was getting the ribbon to disconnect. The plastic pieces that hold it together are fragile and broke. So, instead of disconnecting the ribbon I placed a kitchen stool in front of the dishwasher door and laid the top portion on it. Then I was able to remove the handle and change out the actuator. The handle was fine and did not need replacing; a tab on the actuator had broken. (In my opinion the actuator should be metal instead of plastic. The dishwasher is less than 2 years in service). // While I had the door apart I also replaced the Interlock Door Switch. The last load we had run resulted in plates with baked on food residue. It seemed that the problem we had matched the description that points to failure of the switch. However, we later observed that the soap dispenser was caked shut and had not opened.
