How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP5805160 / WE01X20374 Timer Knob

Ordered new control knob, perfect fit 

I ordered the wrong part and was able to cancel right away. I also received help ordering the right parts. I was able to follow the video and do the repair. Best customer service ever! 

First I ordered a new dryer timer for GE Dryer GTDX180ED3WW. After installing it, I decided to find an OEM knob that didn't warp and ruin the post again. Even though the previous knob had a metal reinforced ring, the metal itself warped. It was one of those $7 D-connector knobs that are all over the web searches. The price of the one I found on this appliancepartspros.com was 4x that price. But an OEM and it looks like they are willing to help if you have any issues with a part. I received the knob in 2 days. The fit was extremely snug, which is what I was hoping for. Zero play before the post turns. The new timer also does not have the stops for the cycles. So I'm hoping without all that extra resistance when setting the timer, this knob and timer combo will last until this thing meets its maker in the city dump. 

We took the old one-off, and replaced it with the new knob. It only took minutes, it was easy as pie! LOL!!! 

Disassembled the front panel & installed new belt. 

I tried taking the signal control knob off and using it for a timer knob and it worked for a short time but the settings were in the wrong cycle. Then it stopped working. I looked up the part I thought I needed and ordered it. However, I did not have the correct name of part I (though it was called Control) so I ordered the wrong part. I realized my error but was still unsure. I called the customer service/support line and a very nice person looked up the name and correct part number for me and it was shipped out the next day, I received it quickly, I slipped it on, it fit perfectly and my dryer is now working again. Wish I had called sooner and requested help. It also would have been helpful if the picture of the knob on the website had detail so I would have known the name of the part I was looking for. 

Went to your site, put in the model number. Found the same timer knob but, when I looked at yours, it is so much better than what was on there. Slipped it right on and presto dryer works fine. With shipping $29.62 and dryer's back in business. Thanks 

Ordered a new knob from you all and all was good. 

First of all, as seniors, we were grateful that the button was complete and not an assembly part. The fewer things needing to be put together the better. It was a matter of taking the back panel off and getting the switch to line up with the button and simply press it in place. Took a matter of minutes, back panel back on, and then move the dryer back in place. 

Replacement timer knob was easy to install. In fact the replacement knob was an improvement over the original one because it has a metal sleeve that will help prevent the knob from cracking.
