When my dryer wouldn't start, my heart sank. In addition to the pile of wet clothes that needed drying, I really didn't want to face an expensive repair. The timer knob seemed to be turning too freely, so I yanked it off to see what lurked underneath. The knob is made of plastic, and the little D shaped hole that fit the metal shaft was broken.
A search on Appliance Parts Pros turned up two knobs that appeared to fit my dryer. Two minutes wait (on a holiday afternoon!) had me chatting with "Amanda" who helped me figure out which part I needed.
Three days later my new knob arrived, and it's better than the original in that the plastic part that broke on the original is now reinforced with a bit of metal.
Popped it back on, and the dryer is back in business.
