How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2038860 / WD8X228 Dishwasher Tub Corner Baffle (Left)

After a quick query on this website, figured I'd change the gasket. Ordered, received, replaced and while the amount of water coming out was greatly reduced, still had leaks. Another one of the "popular" causes listed here, decided to change both baffles. This dishwasher was dormant for about 8 years and both the gasket and the baffles were rigid and not pliable. Ordered both baffles, received, changed. Tested cycles running just water and problem was fixed!!! However, when I threw in one of those fancy, dancy detergent "pods" and ran the cycle again, there was a ton of foam still coming out of the bottom of the door. After a few choice expletives and a mini-fit, decided to remove the door outer panel. Watched the cycle with just the inner door panel attached and saw tons of suds coming from the bottom of the panel. For some reason a light bulb went off and I decided to do an internet search on using these newer detergent pods on an older dishwasher. Eureka!! Found many other people who had issues using these pods in old dishwashers. So, ran to the nearest store to find either regular powder or liquid detergent. Put the door back together, added some liquid detergent, turned on the machine and held my breath (not through the whole cycle, but still) and IT WORKED!!! No sudsy leaks!! So, yes, the gasket and the baffles both needed to be changed as both were so brittle that they broke when I removed them, however, the final fix was simply a return to the detergent that the machine was actually "made" to use! 

When discovering the leak I examined the seals along the door of the dishwasher and found them to be in pretty bad condition. Not knowing how to fix it I called a couple appliance parts stores in my area and got virtually no help other then an offer to send a repair man out. Cost estimates were $150 in parts and $200 in labor!! So I searched online and found that through ApplianceParts Pros.com they had all the schematics showing what parts I needed but they have videos showing how to do the repair!! The parts, consisting ot a door seal, 2 baffles and a center seal cost me $90 including shipping and were here in 3 days. Would have been 2 days but the weekend got in the way. As a result I was able to fix the dishwasher myself in about 10 minutes (it no longer leaks) and I saved $260!! I love that!!. 

I discovered a missing door baffle, ordered it, watched the little video and when it arrived I think it took me less than 90 seconds to install new baffles. Now my dishwasher no long leeks - WONDERFUL. 

Installed all the parts I ordered in about 20 min 

Replaced sump and related pieces. Also replaced door baffles that were getting bad. The hardest part of job was removing the dishwasher from the its spot in cabinets. The info on site made replacing parts easy. 

Installed a new pump and motor assembly along with a new water inlet valve and 2 new corner baffles. My dishwasher works better now than it did when it was new. My advice to anyone with an older mechanical push button/dial operated machine would be to rebuild it. The new machines with electronic control boards are junk! You are lucky if you get 2 to 5 years out of them before they break down as the boards cannot withstand the moist heat they are surrounded by. I built my own computer and water cooled it to keep temperatures down on the chips, cards and boards so it will last, and the chip can even be over clocked. The manufacturers keep their costs down by installing very similar electronic boards that cannot take the heat very long and will break down long before the old style dishwashers do. So what better way to save money then ordering new parts from Appliance Parts Pros and repair your old machine that will last years to decades longer than the new junk dishwashers, GREAT JOB APPLIANCE PROS! Unplug electrical socket and water supply (2 minutes) Pull dishwasher out from under the counter (15 minutes) Pull back blanket insulation (2 minutes) Change out part with 2 screws (5 minutes) 

I needed to replace the L and R Tub Corner Baffles, as well as the door seal. I found the parts that i need through AppliancePartsPros.com!
