How to Troubleshoot & Replace Ge AP2045290 / WH2X1199 Hub Washer

I fixed by taking the washer apart... then I ordered all the parts from the appliancepartspros store and installed with no issues. 

The inner tub base had corroded and broke in two. I purchased the hub & hub nut locally but had to drill & cut the hub nut to get it off. In doing so I drilled too far into the tub bearing ring. I ordered that part from Appliance Parts Pros, assembled the washer which works fine. 

I first watched your helpful video on replacing the tub bearing. I then went back and ordered every part involved in that and I figured I will have the washer that far taken apart I may as well change the belt too. Your videos make these repairs fairly simple. 

I ordered parts based on the troubleshooting suggestions provided by Appliance Parts Pros and disassembled the washing machine according to their online instruction video. The video was very specific to my machine model number and was clear and concise. Once disassembled, I ordered additional parts to replace corroded hardware. After reassembly, the spin cycle still seems noisy but I've determined it's not bearing related and is probably due to air noise from the agitator. I feel with the new parts, the machine will last a bit longer than it would have otherwise. Ordering parts was easy and they arrived within a couple of days. I highly recommend Appliance Parts Pros. 

Watched videos for disassembly, pulled agitator and found broken drum hub . Decided to disassemble first to see what parts I may need . Hard part was the disassembly due to years of crud and corrosion. Didn’t have a spanner wrench so used large adjustable and hammer hub nut wouldn't budge, so I cut it off using a saw and chisel, be careful not to damage the shaft. Now that it was apart, due to age decided to replace the bearing, bearing washer, hub washer, split bearing, hub nut and dampening straps due to one was broken. Ordered parts, while waiting for delivery cleaned up disassembled parts, longest part of project. When parts arrived reassembled washer took about a hour watch videos pretty straight forward. Washer now works like new. 

Replaced Tub Bearing, and other parts (Tub Bearing Washer, Hub Nut, Hub Washer, Tub Bearing Split Ring, Seal Tub) along the way as had to entirely disassemble the washer machine down to the metal fabricated frame. And wasn't totally sure it was the Tub Bearing, so to avoid disassembly again, replaced all "potential" suspected components. 

I am a former GE appliance tech, Had been working on appliances in my younger days. So much has changed in the appliance world. Since being retired from a different job my time is spent helping my family and just a few friends, So when my daughter called about a leak in her GE washer, I checked your site for the repair (Thank you, for all you do to help and show how to do these repairs. I can not say enough Thanks to your personnel that do this) I will be doing the repair Monday 1/13/20 and I am sure that the repair go well. The OEM parts are a plus and since I have some back ground it should go ok, barring no extra problems. Thank you again for the instructions on the washer and the parts. 

Did a diagnostic review of available videos of real-world repairs and based on that information pinpointed the problem as the tub seal. Then found diagram, identified parts, needed. I did not use spanner wrench, soaked nut threads overnight, used 6" pipe wrench and hammer. Agitator removal biggest challenge used 2 ropes and 2 pc of 2x2 to remove the stuck agitator. Spent some time to clean shaft and inset on the tub basket, lubricated with a light coat of grease. Disassembly was a challenge, did not know what to expect, the assembly went well (studied video / made notes). Diagnosis correct, unit works well. Ordered parts had 2-day delivery, excellent service. 

Replaced Mode Shifter and shaft assembly. The hardest part was removing the tub nut. I did not bother with the tool they sell. I used and impact wrench and a 1-11/16" claw foot I have. A socket would have been better but I didn't have one. Even after letting oil drip into the nut, it took quite a beating with the 1/2" impact gun at full blast. The tub bearing was the second hardest thing. I had to pound it out from the inside carefully to not damage the tub. The tub seal was totally shot and corroded causing some water to drip below onto the mode shifter bearing. While I was doing the job decided to get the tub bearing, tub seal, new belt, and all new hardware. The washer is about 10+ years old and hope I don't need to get in there for another 10+ years. Spent about $200 and about 5 hours, but I took my time working at a cautious pace. The washer sounds brand new again....nice and quiet.
