How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5202013 / MDS62058301 Rear Tub Gasket

Followed the video! Which was very helpful. The shaft was VERY difficult to free from the bearings ... took the heat, penetrating oil, and a sledgehammer. Be ready for that to take a while and to have to hit the shaft a LOT harder than you think you should. The old bearings were also difficult to remove from the outer tub. Once all the old parts were out, seating the new bearings and putting the whole thing back together was relatively simple. In my case, the seal was compromised and the inner bearing was rusty. Rusty enough to make noise, but not so far gone as to allow movement/play. Outer bearing looked/felt fine...but replaced since I was in there anyway. With new bearings/seal drum rotation was silent. 

Replaced the bearings, seal, spider gear, and tub gasket. A little tough getting the spider gear shaft off bearings. Wish I bought the bolts to secure the spider to the tub, had to heat them to get them loose, but all in all, followed the video steps and it went smoothly. 

I removed the barrel from the inside of the washer, and removed the tub after that I punched out the bearings and replaced them with the ones that were sent which by the way I received within a couple of days. I ordered the inner bearing outer bearing and the seal. 

I bought my parts from AppliancePartsPros.com, watched a small video on replacing the seal. So I had some idea what I was dealing with. My machine was a little different than the video, it was really simple. Unplug some wires remove some hoses, shocks, and springs and out came the tub. Took it apart drove out the old bearings with hammer and punch. Drove in the new ones with a hammer and brass punch (so not to damage the new bearings). Put in the new seal. Power washed the tub inside and out(it was nasty with build up). Put it back together and it worked like a new one. Thanks so much AppliancePartsPros.com. 

I'm a DIYer but still found the how-to video very helpful. The toughest part was removing the old bearings. I used a hardened punch for one side and then the head of a 5/8x6" bolt for the other side. The bolt might have worked for both.

This doesn’t mean necessarily the best on the market! In fact, the bearings are made in China, as the original! But if they last 9 years, as the originals, will be okay! The replacement was pretty easy, fallowing the video; but it needs time and patience. I’m very pleased of the experience. 

Replaced the tub bearings. 

Turns out the tub gasket was leaking after 10 years. The washer door boot seal gasket was the most difficult to install - should have never taken it off Cover, Tub. Videos do not show everything for installation of it. The bearing and spider are in perfect shape. 

New inner tub bearings and seal. I’m a mechanic by trade and took me 6 hours to do this job. Had to drill and tap the spider as I messed up the threads beating the drum from the rusted bearings. Saved me a lot of money but definitely a job I don’t want to do again.
