How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP6976641 / AEG73309907 Heater Assembly

The problem could be the thermistor or the heating element so I replaced both. One thing I learned was that the thermistor was the correct part number, but the heating element wasn’t. LG upgraded the heating element and I had to confirm they were comparable through LG. 

Appliance repair made absolutely certain that I had the correct part, as there can be so many exceptions. I was about to order the incorrect part, but no- They came to the rescue. The repair video was excellent! Without these- the average handy person could not possibly repair a machine of this complexity. Internet+how to video=game changing in the home repair marketplace. My only comment to the repair is in the case of my heating element thermistor- when told to "tighten" it would be good to know just how much. An experienced repair person would know. During my first install and run, I was worried I might not have tightened the part replaced enough. Tightening the main bolt-in this case also secures a rubber seal in place. I did Not tighten it enough, and I had minor leakage. Twenty minutes later, I was back-in, tightening up and securing the machine for now perfect operating order. Mark G. 

I replaced the bearings and the seal. I followed the video you posted on You Tube and it was extremely helpful. The repair took about 5 hours and a lot of that was cleaning the drum and tub parts once they were disassembled. It is back together and working well. 

Changed the heating element. Apparently you can't buy just the Thermister which took me a while to figure out. There is a very helpful You Tube video on how to take the front off the washing machine so you don't have to crawl under it and risk getting squished. 

Replaced heating element. Replaced door seal. Watched a video on how to do it. It took time but everthing can be done by your self with reg. hand tools. Not hard at all. 

Had to replace the Heater/Thermistor assembly. Job was easy enough but original part I received did not work. Customer service was excellent and helpful. Went through steps over phone and new part was delivered in 2 days. Counting Sunday. Besides getting a lemon the first time I am still very happy with the pricing, delivery, and service. I did not pay for expedited delivery and received both parts within two days. 

Previously bought a thermistor assembly from a repair man which failed after three weeks. I bought another heater assembly from AppliancePartsPros.com which arrived at my door in about a week.
