How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5243567 / 4681ED3001D Diverter Motor Assembly

Replaced stepping motor 

This was a very simple repair. It was done in about an hour. It involves disconnecting the dishwasher, emptying the water from the inside, taking it out and flipping it over, and replacing the diverter motor. This repair is done on the underside of the dishwasher, nothing to disconnect inside (just remember to remove the baskets). It would be wise to order the motor seal and micro switch that goes with it as they are all cheap parts and easy to swap out during the procedure. Be sure to take pictures of what you disassemble in case you forget how they go back. You will have to reuse the plastic cam from the shaft of the old motor, or you can order a new one (note which side is up!). 

Replaced the Cam Motor & Switch Cam with the help of a video that was made available with the parts from ApplianceParts. 

Most important lesson: This model has a newer and very different chassis, the underside has a monolithic polyethylene base that is very difficult to remove. The diverter motor is accessible but just barely with an offset wrench. Also, the sprayers are quite different from the video, I could not figure out how to remove them. Note that the LG calls the diverter a Vario motor. I replaced the motor but this did not fix the issue, so I called in the pros. They confirmed that the motor was not the issue, but discovered two round metal punch-outs that were holding the internal plastic valve immobile. Removed the obstruction and the problem solved. This dishwasher includes an elaborate filter system that makes it all but impossible for objects that size to have been washed into the system, so going to file a claim with LG. 

I ended up with two sets of orders. The lower housing was cracked and I replaced that but it did not fix the issue, only a slight improvement. Through the diagnostics menu I figured out the diverter motor was defective and not switching to clean the upper rack. After changing this everything is working great. 

The repair was simple. Unplug the wire, remove 2 screws, remove the diverter motor then do the same in reverse. It took all of 5 minutes. The bigger job was removing the dishwasher and reinstalling it. Doing the repair myself saved me a lot of money. I’m guessing a repair person would have cost me around $200.00, maybe more. 

Replaced the diverter motor. 

The bottom spray arm of the LG dishwasher was not working. Replacing the small and inexpensive diverter motor that channels the water to upper and lower spray arms fixed the issue. It was a quick and easy change. The motor was easy to get to after pulling the dishwasher out of the cabinet. There are many videos on line showing how to replace this motor. Also replaced the switch that monitors the motor position. 

Replaced diverter motor and seal. 

Did a duck-duck-go search and came across a website that explained what the error was for the LG dishwasher. The website listed the parts and then I went to appliancepartspros website and watched a video on how to replace the part. Once I seen how easy it was to repair I ordered the parts. The entire process to fix issue was about 30 minutes.
