How to Troubleshoot & Replace Lg AP5781940 / AJK72909308 Suspension Rod Kit

Replaced suspension rods. Very easy repair, one screwdriver and 20 minutes. This is either a very bad design or designed this way with the purpose to sell repairs. The springs in the rods start to sag after a couple of years. I’ve replaced these rods 4 times now. Every couple of years the uneven load error message starts coming on on almost every load. Once that happens it continues to try to even the load by refilling the tub with water to redistribute the load, wasting so much water. The water saver feature is nonexistent. 

After several months of the UE codes becoming more frequent on my LG top load washer, I did a Google search for a repair. Pretty universally, it was determined that the suspension rods being worn out causes the issue. It's only been a few days, but so far, no UE codes since I installed the new suspension kit. 

Replaced the suspension rods but these DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. Ended up replacing the clutch assembly (AEN73131406) which DID fix the problem. 

This suspension rod kit worked. We followed the video and it was almost exactly the same experience. My teenaged son helped. Needed a cord or rope to hold the lid open, and a rag to manage the grease. New and old parts are greasy. 

Bench tested the motor after draining by hand. Bench tested new motor before installing. Siliconed drain tubes to pump housing. Ran a test load before running my clothes. Also replaced suspension rods. 

Replaced the Suspension, Rod Kit. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. 

I replaced the Suspension Rod Kit on all four corners. 

I watched the video and it was really helpful. My washing machine was a different model so removing the top was a little different method but after that everything was the same 

I installed the suspension rods. Fixed the issue. 

I am a do-it-your-selfer. I thought the problem was the clutch. I did not want to change the clutch. The washer seemed like it was struggling or unable to spin over the weight of the load. The problem occurred in one out of ten loads. The washer would display the above codes at times and not others. It would not spin at times with both heavy and one item loads. I read APP's buyer reviews on the suspension rods. The replacement of the suspension rods would be an obviously easier and less expensive solution and most people had positive results. I didn't realize that this could be a maintenance part but it makes sense. The springs involved cant hold their tension forever. I watched APP's repair video and the repair went exactly as shown. Lastly, I didn't realize until later from reading the LG instruction book that there is a code for clutch problems. My wife is back to washing heavy carpets, blankets and large towel loads. Her problem now is that it took me so long to get around in fixing the thing!
