How to Troubleshoot & Replace Samsung AP5966894 / DC96-00887C Dryer Thermostat Bracket Assembly

So our dryer stopped heating. Did some research on what the problems could be. The most likely thing was that the thermal fuse went out. Disassembled the dryer which was not hard and tested it and found it was bad. I went to the local appliance store and got a new one…$30 bucks! I installed it and the dryer worked for 2 loads…then stopped heating again. Did more research and found that the actual reason it was blowing was the dryer thermistor was actually the reason the thermal fuse was blowing. When I tested it there was about 14 ohms. TOO HIGH! Discovered that the ohms at room temp should be at 10. Ordered parts on line this time because I was not going to overpay and installed the new parts. The dryer is now fixed! So if your thermal fuse goes out and the vent is clear, the heating element is not broken or touching the metal box it sits in and the temp switch is working….replace the thermistor also. I am not a dryer mechanic but I watched some youtube videos to accomplish this task. It was easy and saved a ton of money. 

I determined that the heater assembly was the issue. I purchased a multimeter with an auto-read function. I then pulled the heater assembly parts out through the vent gate and tested the thermostat, thermal fuse, and heat coils for conductivity. The thermal fuse was the only part that did not set off the meter. I ordered the thermal fuse from AppliancePartsPros.com, however I quickly realized I only ordered the fuse and not the entire fuse assembly. I contacted AppliancePartsPros.com through chat and they quickly fixed the issue. The part arrived in two days, I screwed the new thermal fuse in, reattached the wires, and had clothes drying in a matter of minutes. 

A month ago I replaced the heating element in a Samsung Dryer, everything was working great, then it stopped heating again. I disassembled the dryer again thinking g the heating element had quit working again. After takining it apart again I found the element be still intact and okay. On the side of the elheating element housing are two other parts (1) the thermostat and (2) fuse assembly. I noticed the fuse assembly had a melted spot on it. I used a multimeter to check the contunity found it to be open. I replace the fuse assembly and went ahead a replaced the thermostat. I also replace the vent hose due possible airflow restriction. Put everything back together and dryer is working great. I am going to check the vent hose monthly, and keep it clean and free of any debris which will help with airflow and keep the parts working properly. Hope this helps. 

I went on line and to get info on what to do, which was to test the 3 components on the heating element assembly. No reading on the thermal fuse indicated it had blown. That and cleaning out the vent system (which is to be done yearly) solved the problem. I thank God that the fuse blew or the lint would have caught fire. CLEAN OUT THAT VENT YEARLY 

Replaced Thermostat 3 in the dryer heater assembly. 

We reviewed other people's experiences and concluded we should replace thermal fuse, thermal fuse assembly and dryer thermistor, mainly because it was easy to do all three once the drum was removed. The videos were excellent, and we disassembled the dryer in just a few minutes and as we removed the drum we saw that the idler pulley had disintegrated. We had likely misdiagnosed the problem. We went ahead and replaced the three electrical components anyway, put the machine back together and ordered the idler pulley assembly. More to follow! 

My dryer wouldn't heat. My husband was out of the country and I wanted to save money and see if I could fix it. My dad said it was probably the heating coil, so I tried that first. I replaced it and it still wouldn't heat. (using this website for the coil purchase and the video for replacing it - it was excellent). It was 11 pm and I was frustrated and I thought I'd email Appliancepartspros.com to see if they had another idea for me. First time replaced heating coil only. Stopped heating again after 2-3 days. Found thermal fuse on side of heater unit burned up. Replacement heater coil still good. This time replaced thermistor as well as thermostat and thermal fuse. So far so good.

I knew from previous experience that most dryers have a thermal fuse. I looked up my model dryer, ordered the part, installed it in about 1 hour.
