How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4701307 / W10342596 Actuator Switch Kit

Received my repair kit watch the video which was extremely helpful repair took less than 15 minutes very happy with process. 

Replaced with new device. 

The part fits perfect and is a much improved design. The instructions were excellent. I recommend attaching one screw and using the switch to guide drill the second hole. Easier to keep it straight. 

Installed updated foot switch. Compactor works better than new.. 

Kitchen Aid replaced the part with a whole different part. Had to take the whole compactor out of cabinet slot and take a lot of it apart. Worst part of the repair was drilling the new holes through the hardest sheet metal I've ever dealt with in an appliance. Broke the first drill bit... It works but this repair is not for someone isn't up for a challenge. 

The actuator kit included a new mechanism and a new switch. This new method is much more robust, but requires learning the full operation first. The most difficult part however, was drilling the two holes in the existing steel frame (use sharper bits than I did), the rest was just screws. It took me longer only because I had to do it in a couple of shifts, when no one was around to supervise (:P). Parts are new, instructions and vendor were excellent, and now everything is tight and running better than ever. 

Purchased this actuator switch kit and installed it within about 30 minutes. I had replaced the factory switch actuator many times over the last 7 years 

I tried to find the old actuator tab for sale and could not locate one anywhere. I had to "break down" and purchase the new actuator kit that replaced the old part. That was the best thing that I could have done and I highly recommend this new kit! Do not waste your time trying to fix the old worn out tab. This is a much better design and had I known it was such a good update I would have probably replaced it before the old one broke. It is an easy installation that anyone with basic DIY skills can do in under an hour. If you can use a screwdriver and drill gun (requires 2 new holes) than you can do this installation. Well worth the money spent! 

The fix went great, really easy to follow directions. I recommend getting someone to help you if you can't lift 75 lbs easily. Also, the electrical connectors on the switch are really tight. I recommend you use needle nose pliers to get them off. 

Purchased and installed the replacement actuator switch kit. Product arrived in 2 days. Directions were very clear and accurate. Repair went very smoothly.
