How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3119063 / 80040 Washer Agitator Dogs

I did search for what the problem could be, which turned up that it was most likely a simple replacement of an easy to get to part. I looked up the part on appliancepartspros.com and watched the video on how to replace it. So I ordered the part and replaced it, exactly like the video showed me, and it all worked perfectly. 

I spent some time perusing the common problems on this website that seemed to relate to my issues. I looked at the recommended repair parts and watched the videos on how to access and replace each part. The videos were key. I would have eventually figured it out but glad I didn't have to go through the process. Once the parts arrived, I watched the videos again and went to work. I changed the clutch assembly, brake shoes and agitator dogs. The brake shoes were the most challenging. Simply because of the amount of disassembly required to do the job correctly. Again the video made this much easier. I took my time and inspected everything along the way looking for other potential issues and cleaning. I only wanted to do this once so it took me twice as long as it would have but I do not mind. I have a better understanding of how this machine operates now. 2 hours later I had it back together and plugged in. Put in a small test load was was blown away at how quiet and powerful it was. Agitates like never before and the spin cycle is amazing! Clothes are almost dry. I never had that much water removed before. I have had issues with this washer several times since I bought it used a few years ago. I have spent 3 times what it cost me for all the parts from your site on repairs I now know I could have done myself. I will never spend another dime hiring a repair person without looking on appliancepartspros.com first. I am a customer for life! Thank you. 

I replaced the thrust washer , agitator and agitator dog assembly. The repair took about 10 mins after watching the repair video. All works fine. Mike C 

I watched a few youtubes, ordered the part and was able to fix the problem in less than 5 minutes. 

Directions came with the new dogs and there is a great repair video on the website. I found the video after clicking on the repair kit link, it was just below the kit's images. I ordered new agitator dogs and just replaced the thrust washer and cam bearing while it was apart (these parts come in the repair kit along with new rubber seals and the agitator cam. I didn't need any of the latter so I ordered parts individually). The old ones showed some wear but had nothing to do with the dogs' teeth being stripped off which kept it from agitating. 

I needed a new collar kit. 

Removed the top cap on agitator. There was an inner cap also that simply pulls out. Removed nut with 7/16 socket wrench. Removed top half of agitator, turned upside down and the gear mechanism came out. There is a plastic sleeve that keeps the dogs in place. Removed and installed the 4 new dogs and put all back together. Top now ratchets like it should. Part # 80040 

I am very much not a mechanical person. But I watched the video on your website and ordered the parts. The parts arrive in 2 days, I was expecting a week or more so really fast service. When I got the parts I watched the video. Stopped it and did exactly what it showed. Then watched the next step. Did again exactly what the video showed. And continued till it finished and I did too. It was hard for me, again I'm not mechanically inclined but it worked exactly as it said on the video. Spent less than 50 dollars and the local repair spot wanted over 200. Couldn't be happier. In fact because of this I also ordered parts and fixed my freezer also. Took several hours on both but sure cheaper and both are working better than ever, just like new. Can't thank you enough. 

I replaced the Counterbalance Spring, all 6 of the Suspension Pads, and the Ring Balancer. I also replaced the Agitator Dogs and Thrust Space Washer because they were very worn. It works like a charm now!!! 

I looked up my model on u-tube on how to remove the agitator. After doing so, I determined the "dogs" were worn out. I ordered the correct parts on Appliance Parts Pros website by putting in my make and model and immediately found the parts I needed. I ordered them and they came only 2 days later. Thank you for saving me the time and trouble of running from parts store to appliance store to find the correct parts. I will definitely look to Appliance Parts Pros in the future for any appliance parts I may need.
