How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6024203 / WPY54414 Belt Tension Pulley

Replaced belt andnpulley. 

With the above parts in picture probably out live us now done heater element and belt few years ago 

Replaced the belt, drum support rollers and the tension pulley. 

New belt, drum support rollers and belt tension pulley. A washer was missing from the front of one of the drum support rollers so I made my own by drilling a 1/2” hole in the center of a washer I had on hand. Also, the blower works way better now that the lint build up was removed from the compartment below the lint catcher. Also, I thought it would be a good idea to vacuum the inside of the dryer and clean up any grease or dirt from inside. After getting the dryer back together, I started it up and it was nice and quiet. 

Replaced thermostat and both wheels on drum, replaced tension arm wheel, replaced belt as preventative maintenance Most difficult part of repair was finding out how to open dryer, Video showed spring clips only holding top on, there were screws and a hold down bracket. Also showed thermostat accessible from rear, it was in front. Prior replacement of drum wheels left out the nylon washer and thin metal washer in the back and front respectively. Had to get from hardware store and then thin them with sandpaper so it all fit. 

Ordered and replaced belt tension pulley and dryer belt. The repair was almost the same as the video except if you replace the pulley only, not the pulley and bracket unit. Snap ring pliers will be needed and the reinstall of the pulley and belt, with the tub in place, was not as easy as in the video. I would do it again but would order the pulley and bracket together as the shaft for mounting the pulley had some tarnish or corrosion on it and it may reappear. Time will tell. 

New roller for drum, new tension roller, & spring. New drum belt. I had trouble getting the top of the machine off. Need to take off the lower panel First, then the upper panel to get to the 2 screws that hold the top down. Then raise the top-up. The Putty knife suggestion does not work on this older model. 

Called a repair person to fix it and got a quote of $200 to just diagnose it. I like this dryer a lot. It has some accessories and features I really like and didn't want to buy a new one, so got online. Found this at appliancepartspros.com and I've used them before. Found out that the whole parts would cost about half of what the "diagnosis" would cost. Looked up the video linked to the part here, and watched it. The video used a little different machine, but it was enough the same that it worked for us. Repaired it and it's now humming right along. I love this place - parts and instructions can't be beat. 

I ordered a new pulley and installed it 

Replaced the drum rollers first, but that did not fix the problem. Ordered the pulley and the belt just in case since it could be both. Replaced the belt first and so far that seems to have resolved the issue. Still need to test a full load of laundry to be absolutely sure Your videos were informative and helped me so much. Especially, since I put the belt on wrong the first time. Had to check the video several times to install the belt properly. Thanks
