Charles V Fairbanks , AK February 03, 2018 Appliance: Maytag Washer- Horizontal Axis MAH5500BWQ Noisey spin cycle. I looked for parts online and found Appliance Parts Pros had what I was looking for and a video on how to take the washer apart without using the trial and error method. The video for the lip seal repair was great but the video for the bearing replacement was for a top loading machine not a front loader. I consider myself fairly mechanically inclined and was able to do the complete job in about 5 hours. The video for the lip seal replacement was great but was done on a new machine not one that has about 12 years of constant family use. Be prepared to spent some time cleaning the machine as you go along. In the Maytag Neptune that I had to replace the tub bearings Maytag's use of an aluminum insert and steel bearings makes it hard to remove the bearing because of oxidation from normal use. Once the bearings were out it was just a matter of cleaning the aluminum surface's with some grit cloth so the bearing could be pressed in. I don't think that doing the bearing replacement would be something the general public should attempt but that is only my opinion. Had to pound like crazy to get them popped out. During the process I learned that the shaft was bad too. Ordered all the parts and put them in. Works great now. Only cost me. $230 for it all! Stephen R Walnut Creek , CA July 12, 2016 Appliance: Model MWH4000AAW Our front load maytag neptune washer has two bearings one of which needed replacing Found a great YouTube video that showed step by step how to do it. Took my time and didn't have any problems. While I had the washer apart, I replaced the second bearing, both seals and did a general cleaning. If you're handy with tools, this job isn't hard, especially with the YouTube video. Chester B Monroe , CT April 13, 2016 Appliance: Maytag Washer- Horizontal Axis MAH4000AWW Sounded like a helicopter takign off during final spin This fix required the bearings and lip seal kit. My machine was purchased in 2000 and the seal was leaking into the bearings. Getting the drum out and then bearings out and in was not an easy task. Get a puller to accomplish this job much quicker. I needed to really pound them out and back in. This took a lot longer than expected due to the corrosion in the drum metal and the bearings. I did clean a lot of gunk (from Soap scum) out of my machine. It is now working quiet as it should. Robert W Elma , WA January 26, 2016 Appliance: Model MAYTAG NEPTUNE MAH5500GWW Super loud noise while spin cycle water leaking out the bottom (seal weep hole) Had to replace the seals - when I opened up the unit there was much water inside the lower compartment near the motor and other electrical and electronic parts -very bad. I have no idea how old the unit was (we got it used as it came with the house) but based on the amount of hard water deposits I suspected a very long time. When I pulled the inner tub out the rear bearings fell out and the inner race was cracked in half and many of the ball bearings fell out and were oblong or sheared completely in half. Exceptionally bad. The bearings listed on the website technically said they did not fit my model but I bought them anyway. To extract the old bearings took considerable effort. I bought a bearing puller but it simple did not work and just bent itself. I made modifications to the bearing puller and got the rear bearing fully out and the outer race fell into parts in my hands. The front bearing was a monster to get out but I kept at it and might have used a vert large hammer several times ... I took measurements and confirmed the new bearings actually are a perfect fit so tried to put them in - lacking a means to press the bearing in place I used a 3/4" x 8 inch threaded rod, some nuts and several large fender washers to assist in getting both bearings in place. 20 minutes after the new bearings were in the washer was back fully assembled and works like a silent champ! $80 of parts/tools plus ~4 hours sweat & muscle is way better than a new washing machine.
