How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6012229 / WP8268340 Spray Arm Bearing

At first I only purchased the lower spray arm hub, but later realized that the spray arm itself was damaged too. I added the spray arm bearing just in case it was missing or damaged. Although it didn’t appear to be a difficult repair I have multiple sclerosis and have difficulty kneeling so my son came over to do the repairs. He watched the video on the Appliance Parts Pros site and was able to complete the repairs in less than 15 minutes. The hardest part was getting the spray arm back on in the right position. 

Replaced a bunch of parts 

Went on YouTube to learn how to clean the filter. Watched three helpful videos for tips. It was pretty easy. You can’t imagine how nasty and clogged the filter was. With some old toothbrushes and a turkey baster I was able to clean everything and put it back together. 

Figured out the groan came from wobbly lower spray arm. Watched the video, bought the parts, watched the video again when they arrived and had it repaired in minutes. Couldn’t have been easier. 

Replaced the chopper, lower spray arm and cleaned residue, particles and Cascade soap residue. My model was a little different than the one in the repair video. The back water tube did not have a screw but had clips holding it instead. The video was pretty good but when I went to put the lower washer arm on I had to lift the screw with the pliers to get it to seat properly for tightening. That wasn't in the video to my recollection. Overall, you guys helped me repair the dishwasher and it is working perfectly now! During the COVID-19 Pancemic, I didn't want anyone coming to the house to repair the dishwasher so I bought the parts and fixed it myself. My wife is very happy! I noticed my dishes were not being cleaned. During the wash cycle the water wasn’t being circulated well enough. I took apart and cleaned out and noticed the chopper had old food and appeared to not be working properly. Once replaced, washer worked like new. I also put new seals as those were worn. Saved a lot of money was going to buy a new one. 

I researched parts on your site and found clues as to what could be wrong. I think the main culprit was a very clogged Chopper but I also replaced the spray arm bearing and spray arm seal. Everything works now! So for about $40, I avoided buying a new dishwasher. 

The washer was making a high pitch noise when operating. I did notice the day before it was running fine. However, a piece was missing from a pair of tongues when I emptied out the machine a day before. I found this website and learned about the chopper. After watching the chopper video, I took my kitchen aid machine down to the chopper. There was the metal piece. It was being cut up by the blades of the chopper. I ordered the part from this company (arrived in 2 days) following the video instructions replaced the part and the machine is back to normal. Clean out as needed also. 

Found the model, then the part numbers from a diagram, watched a youtube video on a quick fix, and ordered the parts from AppliancePartsPros.com , perfect fit and fix, under 20mn. fix time, added some car sound dampener pads to the inside door to quiet the noise, makes for a quiet and efficient dishwasher, better than new 

I researched your site and viewed the troubleshooting guide pertaining to the symptoms. I found similar issues and several other write-ups from others that pointed me in the right direction. The how-to videos allowed me to disassemble and later repair with confidence. The chopper shaft was sheared and its screen was plugged with unprocessed chunks of food. This resulted in low water flow from the spray arms. I ordered the parts and received them in two days. I could not be happier.
