How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6006364 / WP22003441 Washer Drum Bearing

I ordered a seal kit and rear bearing from your company. Unfortunately Maytag (Whirlpool) has discontinued the front bearing. I was able to find a front bearing from Lorain Furniture and Appliance and by following their wonderful You Tube video I was able to change out the bearings and seals. Machine is much quieter now. 

Replaced bearings and seal and belt. 

I replaced the brake assembly and bearings on the washer in addition to the belt, idler pulley, drum rollers and axles on the dryer. 

Purchased the seals kit, the front and rear bearing kit as well as the belt and bushing kit. I'm here doing the repair now I'm replacing all wear items as well. No sense coming back later to do what I already have apart. Watching different versions of the bearing install was extremely beneficial. I took my good old time and cleaned all washer parts at disassembly. I can't stress the point enough cleaning the bearing seat location. It took about 1-1/2 hours alone with emery cloth as well as a 1-1/2" flap wheel. The videos over simplify this part. My particular washer has been in service since September 2004. With well above average use. I have 7 people under my roof 3 of which are TEENAGER'S. This is the first time it required any service. 16 years! The total time for me was about 6 1/2 hours over 2 days. I also had rust issues to address as well. This is a great company to deal with. Very very good service. The parts were early by 2 days. Couldn't be more satisfied. 

Watching the repair video was very helpful. Replaced the brake assembly, bearing and pulley bearing. I received a defective brake assembly and the customer service department was first class on sending me a good part one day later. I am very satisfied with doing business with appliancepartspros.com. Now the washer runs like new. 

I got the replacement items, watched the YouTube videos and fixed it. I had calcium deposits everywhere that took hours to remove. The replacement of the bearings and seals was fine and took about an hour. 

Lip seal kit parts went in just fine and worked great. Getting the old parts out was pretty tough. The only reason it was a difficult fix is because I had to break loose almost 15 years worth of grime. This is a less than 30 minute job if everything comes apart nice and easy. 

Trouble shot the problem and ordered parts. I removed the old brake assembly and bearings then ordered new parts. While waiting for parts to arrive, I found some clothing pinched between the tub and the outer housing at the top lip of the tub. Removed the clothing and things turned freely. Don't know if it was from the pinched clothing or the removed brake assembly. I installed the new assembly and bearing when they arrived and it has been working fine for the past few days. 

Replaced front; back, & lip seal kit. 

Made my own puller/installer and I wish the spacer centering tool was included with the bearing kit(the tool would be about 25 cents worth of plastic) but I made one out of a couple of toilet paper tubes. Just slice the tubes lengthwise to remove enough girth that one will fit in the larger front bearing bore and the other in the rear, then put the smaller into the larger with slots on opposite sides and assemble rear bearing ,spacer, frt bearing together to figure out the right length of each paper tube. You want them to overlap inside the spacer about an inch while being flush to the back of the rear bearing and stick out about an inch beyond the front bearing. Once you pull the rear bearing in place you can install your homemade tool with spacer from the front and the start the frt bearing onto the projecting tool and assemble your press and pull the front bearing in. I felt both my bearings seat quite distinctly when I pulled them in and at that point the spacer was held firmly enough that it didn’t drop when I removed my toilet paper tube tool! ALSO- I’m leary of the Chinese bearings too bad they don’t use NSK like the originals. We got eighteen years out of them while raising two girls one of which came from China so i hope the bearings are made as well as the kids!!
