How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5983729 / 661570V Dryer Drive Belt

Replaced the belt that was ordered from your company. Order showed up on time and was a perfect fit, thanks.

Replacing the felt seals were a bit more of a challenge than expected. They are held on with adhesive, so you have to rip the old ones off, sand off all the stuck felt and old adhesive with sandpaper and then put the new one on. It's easy to make a mess quickly with the adhesive. The best way to install the new set is to put the seal on first and then carefully lift the edge and squirt adhesive under it, doing 6 inches or so at a time. That was much, much easier than trying to apply the adhesive first and quickly put the seal on...that method takes at least 2-3 sets of hands to keep the seal from dragging through the adhesive! Other than that, the repair video was spot on... 

Watched the easy to follow video for a few minutes, ordered the belt and followed the procedure. 

Replaced belt. Watched video first. Video was helpful, but it did not show the ring on the perimeter of the door. Took an extra 10 minutes to figure out. Also the connections to the electronic panel was not accurate. Could not get to disconnect so labeled the wires ,cut them (5), and then spliced them back together when done. In general the video was very helpful. 

Clothes were taking forever to dry. Process of elimination was able to determine that the dryer blower wheel was broken. Replaced with a new blower wheel and changed belt while i was at it. Video was extremly helpful. Very simple replacement to get the dryer back to like new again. Am very happy with the results. Reminder to all to clean your dryer regularly as lint build up collects quickly and potential of dryer fire is a scary thought. 

Took the top and front off the dryer, removed the drum, and located the broken part. Diagnosis was easy since the pulley was just laying on the bottom of the dryer. I ordered the pulley and a belt (since I was already in there) and received the parts in less than 2 days. Once I had the parts it took me an hour to put everything back together. I saved $200+ on a service call and had my dryer back to new condition in no time. 

It ends up that the belt simply broke, it was a fun and easy repair with basic household tools that took a bit more than an hour. 

Looked on youtube for my model of dryer and the problem I was having. Found the video from AppliancePartsPros.com and was able to diagnose and fix the problem. It turned out to be the idler pulley that needed to be replaced and I figured that while I have the machine torn apart I might as well replace the drum belt as it looked cracked and worn.
