How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP5983729 / 661570V Whirlpool Drive Belt

Replaced pulley and belt. 

New belt. 

I replaced the drive belt. And cleaned out inside the cabinet while I was in there. 

Replaced the drum belt idler pulley assembly, replaced 2 of the rollers, and 2 roller shafts, and cleaned the remaining rollers. While I had the dryer apart I cleaned lint buildup from the interior portion removed the drum baffles and emptied years of buildup of lint and coins. After reassembling the dryer it worked perfectly and was very quiet. Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com for sending the needed parts out very quickly! 

Removed the front cover discovered the broken belt and ordered new! Replaced the belt and the dryer worked! 

New blower wheel, pulley and drive belt. 

Replaced the belt and the tension pully. Ordered the belt and recieved it in two days. Replaced the belt and the noise continued. Ordered the pully and recieved it in two days. Replaced the pulley and the dryer is as quiet as it was the day we bought it, 18 years ago. 

I replaced the belt, pulley, idler and a seal. It was surprisingly easy once I learned how to get it apart. 

Originally thought belt was broken, but how to video for belt replacement was for a newer version of the dryer and disassembly instructions were not totally accurate. Followed disassembly instructions for the replacement for belt motor switch which were closer for the dryer I have. Upon disassembly discovered problem was the broken idler pulley. I ordered the pulley and a replacement belt that night and was promised next day shipment. The parts not only shipped as promised, but also showed up a day later. I installed the new parts and partially reassembled the dryer. After getting an error code, I found one connector not fully seated (my fault), After firmly seating the connector, the dryer worked like new. Finished assembly with the top and bottom covers. When disassembling an older dryer, I recommend removing the lint duct and vacuuming the fan blades which were full of lint. 

After 19 years of using the dryer, we put in a fairly heavy load of towels and it would not tumble, but I could hear the motor running. After removing the towels, I still had the problem. After reading about the probable causes of the problem, I disassembled the dryer. The drive belt, drum support rollers and the idler pulley all looked good to me. I reassembled the dryer and things got worse, the motor would not even turn on this time. I again disassembled it (a lot faster this time), checked the thermal fuse, and discovered that it was blown. So I ordered the thermal fuse and the belt. Once they came and I reassembled the dryer with the new parts, everything was working again.
