How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6020747 / WPW10388414 Drive Belt

This repair went exactly as the video described. The video made it unbelievably easy. Took about 2.5 hours only because I scrubbed and cleaned all hoses and pars in and out. Our washer is 12 years old and had some build up. Seriously don't shy away, this was $250 with a new belt. Compared to a new front loader $1200-$1500, repairs the way to go. My only scare or concern was that the inner basket spider was rotten (galvanic corrosion (dissimilar metals) however it was just dirty. Tips 1. The front outer tub didn't line right up with the new rear. I lined up the top and hammered in clips as went. Worked my way around and clipped alng the way. Took a little elbow grease but it went together well. 2. The rear pulley the belt rides on 24mm bolt fought a little. Don't bind the pulley and use muscle. Follow the repair video, Simon nailed all of it. Bind the pulley and hit the wrench with a hammer to strike the bolt loose. 3. My Dewalt impact gun made the jobs fast. Enjoy your good as new washer. 

Replaced pulley and belt. 

At first I thought it was just a failed belt but I could feel the driven pulley seemed loose. The "flats" on the inside of the aluminum pulley where it mounts to the shaft were worn to an hour-glass shape. New pulley and belt went on fairly easily and everything is working great. 

I went to your website (Like I have done in the past), Quickly found the parts, and best of all...you had videos on how to replace the parts I order! I replaced all shock absorbers, and Upgraded to the drive belt as suggested (why not why I have things apart), put it all together, and everything worked fine. Note: because my machine was up on a pedestal, and in a very tight laundry room, this all took about 2 hours (soup to nuts). Also...I may suggest that to prevent damaging or tearing the your vinyl floor, you will want to put some dish soap or vaseline around the feet so you can slide that beast in-and-out without tearing the vinyl like I did. I have used your web site for 3 years now to fix my appliances, and it just keeps getting better all the time...Thank you! 

When I pulled the washer away from the wall, I saw a lot of black debris on the floor. I figured from that the belt broke. When I removed the back panel, the belt was off. The drive pulley was also very worn around the bolt, so I went ahead and replaced it as well. One of my shock absorbers was also broken, which is why my tub had been making loud noises recently and probably why the belt came off. I could not get the belt on myself. I used a trick from YouTube with a strong zip tie to hold it on the drive pulley while turning it, and it worked. Saved me from having to buy a new washed. Still going strong after 15 years. 

Watched video on how to replace the belt and husband replaced it in about 15 min. From start to finish. So wonderful to have help. Thank you for that! 

Had to replace pulley due to poor design (cast aluminum pulleys and hardened steel drive shafts do not mix). Replaced belt as it had worn as the pulley failed. 

I ordered the bearings from a company that specializes in selling basket bearings for front loading washing machines. I then ordered the bellows, belt and tub seal from appliance parts pros. The videos that Appliance Parts Pros has on their website are outstanding. Because of these videos I felt confident that I would be successful in my project. I have a Kenmore washer, which was made at that time by Whirlpool. The video was exactly perfect and specific to my unit. I was somewhat overwhelmed by the scope of the project, but again because of the excellent video education, I was able to completely disassemble my washer, remove the tub, split the tub, remove the basket, replace the bearings and seal, then reassemble the entire machine and then run and empty test load in the span of about 6 to 7 hours. My repairs on this machine cost me about $400 dollars (which includes a drain pump a month ago) out of pocket, and the washer will be good for at least another 10 years. If I would have had to pay a professional to do this job, needless to say my washer would have been replaced as the cost to pay a service technician to do the same job would have cost more than a new front load machine. As it is, I am planning to replace these units, with new, but more importantly I will now be able to pass these great running units on to my newly married daughter and her husband with confidence that they will be receiving quality running units. Followed videos and repairs were easy enough. The replacement belt was about 2 inches shorter than the original. It was tight, but I managed to get it wrapped around the drive pulley. My original shocks were ok (no broken plastic) but I changed them as a precaution. These are not sealed shocks and probably were still good. Either way the new shocks were a perfect fit. All parts were shipped and received very quickly. (2 days) 

Took back off of washer and replaced parts.
