How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4294048 / Y303836 Dryer Blower Wheel Assembly

Since the motor drive was different from the original, my husband called for help from the pros at Appliance Parts Pros. That was great!!! He got off the telephone and had the dryer going in a very short time! I always order from this place.....great experience....great business!!!!!! 

With the help of AppliancePartsPros.com and their advice, I replaced the blower fan, idler bracket and pulley and 1 tumbler wheel with all associated washers . I planned on replacing both tumbler wheels. But one was damaged when I got it and they refunded me the total price and gave me a 20 % discount on my parts for the shipping. My 25-plus year-old Maytag clothes dryer was making a strange noise and since I had replaced belts before and drum rollers, I pretty well knew how to open it up to find the problem! Plus, you can find all kinds of videos on YouTube to show you how to do it like I did in the past for other repairs and highly recommend watching some if you're going to take the issue on yourself! And the problem I found was the Plastic Blower Wheel center hole was worn out and was barely spinning on motor shaft which was causing it to vibrate and spin out of round causing the noise! It was a real simple job and taking my time it took about a little less than an hour to do! And I also highly recommend since you got it opened up to clean all the lint out that builds up around and in the Blower Wheel section as you will be surprised how much accumulates in there! The replacement blower wheel I received was an exact match to my old one in every way even down to the Maytag Logo molded into it and the part number! After installation and buttoning everything back up the Dryer works like it did when it was new and actually dries the clothes faster for some reason! Also very happy with the price, fast shipping, and service that "AppliancePartsPros" gave as had the part the next day after I ordered it and will deal with them again and highly recommend them! 

Spun drum by hand and noticed the noise and the blower wheel moving after the drum stopped turning. The repair time was about a half-hour but I like to go through the dryer and make sure all the lint is out and everything is clean so that took a little while. 

Replaced thermal cutoff sensor. As found blower wheel was rounded out on the spindle. Blower wheel was not turning properly which caused a hot situation blowing the thermal cutoff. Replaced both and all works fine. 

Old Maytag DE412 Removed the two screws from the bottom of the front panel. Removed the front panel. Removed wiring to the door switch. Removed four screws holding the front bulk head. Blower wheel should not be loose or rattle when touched or turned. Removed six screws (blower wheel panel) with one screwed into the bottom of the unit. Note: may need to clean around the wiring to see it. Removed the front plate covering the blower wheel. Used pliers to remove the bracket on the center of the wheel. Their was also another smaller bracket directly on the shaft preventing the blower wheel removal. The bracket had two tiny holes(found after cleaning), to help with removal. I didn't have the proper tool so I used cuticle scissors as a substitute... with a bit of difficulty. Replaced the blower wheel and reassembled. All fixed. Now the dryer is quiet as a kitten. 

Change motor, no problem. 

After taking off the front cover, as explained by someone else, I found a bracket holding the drum belt was very loose. The belt was on the verge of breaking. The drum blower was scraping on the chassis. The parts were so reasonably prices I purchased those three plus the drum rollers and slides. Result is a completely rebuilt dryer for less than $100.00. Complete rebuild in 1 1/2 hours. I've already recommended partspro to several friends. 

After trying several things, my patient husband figured out that it was blower wheel assembly had worn. Of course, everything else needing replacing (ie belts & wheels). It is now working great. 

Used the information on your web site to diagnose the probable cause. took the dryer apart to look at the blower wheel and found that the wheel turned freely but not the drum. also noted the front felt drum seal was missing about 5"', and some minor damage to the blower seal. ordered the 3 parts and installed them today and the dryer is now working like new.
