How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4294048 / Y303836 Dryer Blower Wheel Assembly

Ultimately is was discovered and caused by the blower wheel shaft opening was cracked and broken. Replaced blower fan wheel. 

The blower wheel was broken. The hub in the center center was cracked in three pieces. Ordered a new one, and that fixed the problem. 

Ordered the part from your website, used the video as a guide and then replaced the part. 

Installed a new blower wheel assembly. 

Replaced the blower wheel assembly. 

Followed the sites troublshoot percentages: not drying (1) Gas Coils (not sure of name) (2) Igniter ...AND... noise (1) rear drum wheels and (2) Front drum slides. Also replaced belt for good measure. Turned on dryer: NO CHANGE. Ended up being the Blower Wheel assembly, the center D-shaped hole that fits over the motor shaft was rounded and was rattling but moving no air. Therefore, based on site troubleshoot suggestions, wasted over $200 on parts not needed. I did tell low-income friend who owns dryer that her dryer should last a long time with all the new parts. 

Replaced the blower wheel assembly, which comes with a new clamp too. It was pretty easy and actually did not require removal of the drum, and therefore also not the belt. (The belt is a bit of a chore to get back on.) The D-shaft hole of the wheel flattens out over time, which is why it eventually fails. 

I watched your repair video. I needed a blower wheel assembly. It took me about 45 minutes to fix the video was very helpful. 

I expected problems with the drum rollers or belt tension idler pulley, but the problem actually was the blower wheel. The central mounting hole had worn away from decades of starts & stops allowing the blower wheel to spin freely on the motor shaft. Blower wheel replacement was easy and the dryer now works about as well as when new. 

After watching the videos here, and reading the comments of others, I recognized there was a difference between the THUMPING sound my machine was making, and the SQUEALING or SCREECHING sounds described by others: mine was definitely the THUMPING, so I went with replacing the BLOWER WHEEL--which was correct!
