One morning my wife and I noticed that the milk in our 13-year old Amana ABB2222FEQ refrigerator-freezer tasted warm. We check the temperature of the refrigerator section. It was 55 degrees, even though the freezer was below zero. The cooling coils in the freezer compartment were completely iced up. We took everything out of the freezer and defrosted the coils (what a pain), but in a couple of days they had iced up completely again, blocking the airflow to the refrigerator section. We checked online at Appliance Parts Pros and learned that the problem was either the circuit board or the freezer temperature sensor. We used the built-in diagnostics to test the sensor; it was OK, so we ordered a circuit board. I followed the online video on how to replace it. It only took 10 minutes or so and now the fridge is as good as new.
Even though the circuit board was nearly $200, it sure beat paying $1000+ for a new fridge and we did not add an otherwise perfectly good appliance to the land fill.
