How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6022400 / WPW10503278 Refrigerator Electronic Control Board

After months of manually defrosting our freezer every 3 weeks, we spent the money and installed a new jazz board. Accessing the old jazz board was a little difficult, but watching you-tube helped greatly. The instructions that came with the board are not very detailed, but the big thing is to follow the steps on separating the two parts of the board to install it correctly and to know your programming code when you power up the refrigerator. Since the repair, we have not seen any frost on the coils. $175 fix is better than buying a new fridge!! 

I checked the thermostat by cutting the wires to it and connecting them with a twist connector then forcing a defrost cycle, no defrost, also placed the thermostat clip down in a very small plastic bowl with 1/2" of water and froze it, tested OK. I checked the heater with an ohm meter, 30 ohms - within range, also checked voltage to heater during forced defrost - only 20 volts. Heater OK. Replaced the control board and the fixed the problem. Freezer now defrosts as it should. 

After turning everything off and letting it defrost, I replaced the control board. I had trouble getting the cover off the control board! But after my daughter came over and looked at it (she’s a whiz at appliance repairs), she discovered that my screwdriver was too big for the slot! Then it went as easy as the video showed. Less than 15 minutes! It’s been running for about 4 days without any problems. 

The frig would cool then not cool. We would wack it and it would cool again. The freezer was good. We ordered a board for it for $189 and it now works great. It was easy to install. We moved frig to our lake cabin. This is the third time we have ordered a part for one of our appliances and the third time we have saved a expensive call to the repairman. We fixed our stove, dishwasher and now frig. Yipeee. 

After watching several YouTube video's and reading reviews/reports on AppliancePartsPros.com I determined the issue was most likely a bad defrost timer in the refrigerator electronic control board. I ordered the part from AppliancePartsPros.com and was able to swap it out without any issues. After two weeks I have not seen any ice build up yet, so I'm anticipating that solved the issue. 

Had diagnosis done first because wasn’t sure how to check jazz board. Tech Said controller board was bad so came here found part and video to fix. Hardest part was getting the jazz board back into the housing. Took all of 15mins to fix. Nice and cold now. Thanks APP! 

I looked up my problem by model # on appliancepartspros.com. They said that the problem was the electronic control board 99% of the time. Replaced it and now it works perfectly. There is a video on the site where you make the purchase. Step by step made it very easy. 

Ordered a new one from you and installed it ourselves. 

Replaced the control board & cleaned off the condenser coils. I also replaced the capacitor, but more from an abundance of caution than firm belief that it failed. After installing the new parts, the unit showed no change until the following morning when I noticed it had stopped running.It kicked back on a few minutes later, started cooling in fridge and freezer and has behaved perfectly since then (2 days). I am guardedly optimistic. 

First I replaced the thermostat. Problem persisted. Confirmed that the electric trap door in the cooling duct was operating properly. That left either the heating element or the logic board as the culprit. Other comments suggested the element was bulletproof, so I replaced the board and voila, problem fixed.
