Mark C Valparaiso , IN May 02, 2019 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer A212S Washer would agitate, but not spin. Belt was slipping on large pulley. Trouble shot the problem and ordered parts. I removed the old brake assembly and bearings then ordered new parts. While waiting for parts to arrive, I found some clothing pinched between the tub and the outer housing at the top lip of the tub. Removed the clothing and things turned freely. Don't know if it was from the pinched clothing or the removed brake assembly. I installed the new assembly and bearing when they arrived and it has been working fine for the past few days. Read More... Rafael R North Andover , MA July 31, 2018 Appliance: Maytag Top Loading Washer LAT9416AAE Wash machine would drain, but wouldn't spin due to a seized brake assembly., other symptom included burning rubber smell. First I replaced the two belts because they were very worn. This did not fix the issue. Next I proceeded with removing the belts, pulley system and ultimately the brake assembly and bearing. I ordered a brake removal tool (P/N: 038315) separately for removing the brake assembly. I used some rust penetrating oil on the brake assembly threads and let it sit for a while. Use of the tool and removing the brake was the most labor intensive part. Some outward pressure needed to be placed on the assembly and threads while holding the transmission. This would have saved 10 minutes of spinning without unthreading. The old bearing was rusted to the brake assembly and I couldn't remove it. I cleaned and wirebrushed the area where the bearing goes and applied grease to the bearing. I also cleaned the pulley bearing. I reattached all parts and tested it on spin cycle. Success! The washer will hopefully last another 20 years! If not, I know where to come for my parts. Read More...
