How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014920 / WPW10082853 Tine Row Pivot

Appliance Parts Pros Gloria, helped me identify the missing piece. We got it ordered and I installed it. Easy peasy. 

I ordered the parts and got on YOUTUBE to watch a video of how to take off the old part and put on the new part. To my surprise, the adjuster kit had gone through a design change which is why I had to go on YOUTUBE to see how to take off the old part and then assemble and put on the new part. This probably took about a half-hour to assemble. Actually, my husband was doing one side as I was doing the other and this worked quite nicely. We had to use a star wrench from our Ring Doorbell on the screws. 

Tall glasses leaning against the pivoting tines of the middle rack were making contact with cups in the outside rows of the rack causing tapping sounds. I was apprehensive that the contact would cause breakage of the glasses and/or cups over time. There were two tine row pivots on each pivoting tine arm so I added two more tine row pivots to stiffen the pivoting tine arm. Easy fix using no tools. No more tapping sounds. 

It just snaps back in. 

I looked carefully at the rack itself and discovered what the problem was. I needed a new adjuster because a couple of the wheels on my rack had broken off. I used the Appliance Parts Pros website to locate the parts needed to make the repair. Once I found the Adjuster repair kit, I double-checked to verify for myself the part I was planning to order actually would fit my model using the handy verification portion of the Appliance Parts Pros website to do so. I really like that part of the website. The part arrived in record time. I was disappointed to open the box and find that directions for installation were not included. So, I went back to the web and was fortunate to find an excellent independent site that explained the steps necessary to make the repair. Check out on YouTube- Dishwasher Rack Hardware Replacement Adjuster Kit Installation by Phil Crocket. Phil did an excellent job of explaining how to replace the adjuster. The most difficult part for me was figuring out how to remove the old adjuster from my rack. I installed the new adjuster and the dishwasher works fine. I do wish that I had ordered new end clips to install on the rails. I did reinstall the old clips, but having new clips would have been a good thing to do at the same time. I also ordered and replaced a tine row pivot on the top rack that broke some time ago. That part simply snapped in place. 

The part I ordered arrived. I removed the upper rack and set it on kittchen table to repair. I have average mechanical ability. I compared the good side to the broken side. Identifying the separate parts i figured out how thew attached, all parts are snapped into place. Thankfully the connections are exposed and can be pushed or squeezed to release. I used my hands, small straight blade screw driver and and needle nose pliers for the job. took about 30 minutes to do. 

Part arrived in 2 days, and 3 minutes to fix 

Easy-peasy. Just snap in place. I got a couple of extras to put in place since each tine rack only had two. 

Replacement parts fit perfectly. Rack is back to normal.
