How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3094183 / 279570 Dryer Door Latch Kit

The Appliance Parts Pros' repair video was very helpful. We watched it, followed the steps and easily replaced the parts. Reassembly went easily and the new parts work perfectly. 

I was able to determine the part # for the door catch by downloading the parts list (W10194548-Rev A) online. AppliancePartsPros.com had an install video for the door latch on the part (279570 - a replacement part from the parts list) page (http://www.appliancepartspros.com/repair-help/whirlpool-dryer-wed9200sq1-repair/wed9200sq1-lid-or-door-wont-close.html), but it was for a metal one piece door. My dryer is a round metal and glass door. The door has an inner and outer door assembly. From the parts list it was difficult to determine how to separate the parts to get to the door latch. Dixie in customer service suggested reading a "Door Reversal" repair pdf file she sent me. I discovered that AppliancePartsPros.com had a You Tube install video for door reversal on a similar model (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H5I7IghMuvE). After removing the door at the hinges, the video showed which 6 screws needed to be removed to separate the inner and outer doors. The repair took about 10 minutes with the help of the 2 videos. I ordered the part on Thursday afternoon, and had it the next day by noon with regular shipping. I highly recommend AppliancePartsPros.com and will use them again for any future appliance repair. Very easy fix with video 

Followed you tube video. Repair was easy. 

Replaced the catches which fixed the problem. Cheap fix and easy to do. 

Replaced heating element. 

Wasn't hard to replace. My 18 yr old replaced it since he broke it by slamming the dryer door. I told him each step to do and it only took us about 20 min. " Wow Dad that was easy " 

I opened up the door, removed the 5 screws from the inside, removed the front cover from the door, using a screw driver, pushed the latches out and matched the color of the latch to it's proper location, blue (#22) top, yellow (#20) bottom, using my fingers, I removed the door catches and put the new one's, I placed the front cover back on and put the screws back in and closed the door, everything worked 

My husband and I took the dryer door off and apart. We didn't mark the screw lengths and had some problems deciding which screws went where when putting the door back together. Door wouldn't close when we thought it was back together - but realized we put a long screw where the hinge needed to rotate. It took about an hour (should have taken 15 minutes).
