How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3790434 / 280114 Dryer Drum Felt Seal

Replaced the gasket. Looks good and will help prevent clothing tears. 

I purchased both the roller/belt/pulley kit and the felt kit. When I took the top of the dryer it looked as though it was the felt, but knowing that I would have to take the machine apart to replace the felt, I also replaced the rollers/belt and pulley. The machine is 14 years old but otherwise runs well so believed this was worthwhile. My daughter and I replaced both felt drum belts/gaskets on my dryer. We disassembled the dryer to remove the drum. I took the old felt off and replaced it with the new (I replaced both since I had the drum off). I let the glue set overnight. We assembled the dryer the next day. The dryer works well. I am very happy with our repair job, plus I saved money doing it myself. Not bad for a 67 year-old lady! 

I ordered the dryer repair kit. Fairly simple to replace. I also ordered a drum seal. This takes a bit longer to install since you should clean the drum from the old seal and let it dry. I used lacquer thinner to remove the old glue. You should order 2 seal and replace both at the same time. There is one on the front and one on the rear of the drum. I also would recommend replacing the blower cover plate seal at the same time. That one is cheap and easy.

With help from my husband we replaced the belt, pulley and bearings. We then replaced the felt seal on the back of the drum. The video was perfect it made the repair so much easier than looking at the instructions supplied with the kit. It took us about two hours to complete, however neither of us had ever taken apart a dryer and we vacuumed and cleaned the unit as we went. Plus we have children who also needed our attention. I would recommend these parts and the video the only thing I wish someone had mentioned is to order two felt drum seals, so we could have replaced both. My own fault as I didn’t realize there were two on the unit as I said we never took a apart a dryer. 

The drum felt seal on my 8 year old Maytag dryer came loose and got chewed up in the machine. This seal prevents heat from escaping out the rear of the drum. Otherwise, the machine looked and ran like new. I ordered a replacement felt from AppliancePartsPros online, and it arrived days sooner than I expected. It fit perfectly and came with plenty of adhesive. It took me half an hour to attach the new felt and I did not have to remove the drum from the machine. I reassembled the dryer, plugged it in, turned it on and it ran perfectly. 

I bought a complete maintenance kit since I was going to be inside my dryer. After taking it apart, I found it was the idler pulley that went bad. I replaced all moveable parts and it works like a charm! The hardest part was blindly replacing belt over the idler pulley, but after studying a picture got it done! Your videos are an amazing help! I would have been completely lost without them.
