The Dryer Drum Felt Seal is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool electric dryers. Located inside the spinning dryer drum, it lines the perimeter and protects the interior surface from abrasions. This seal measures approximately 82 inches in length.

Symptoms of a bad dryer drum felt seal include:

  • Scratches or scuff marks visible on the inside of the drum
  • Visible wear patterns or thinning of the felt material
  • Premature rusting or corrosion of the steel drum
  • Chipped or delaminated areas exposing bare steel

Causes of failure can include normal wear from friction generated during high-speed spins. Mineral deposits and grit trapped between the seal and drum may accelerate wear over extended use as well.

This OEM part is also compatible with brands like Maytag, Amana and Kenmore.

Hello Robert, You will need to open the dryer and check the tumblers and the front and rear bulkheads for any loose or broken parts that could be snagging the fabric. Keep in mind that the moisture sensor bars are mounted inside to the front bulkhead and you cannot see them without putting your head inside the unit or disassembly of the dryer. It would also be possible for the clothing to be caught between the tub and the front or rear bulkhead if there are worn parts such as the felt seals, drum rollers, or glide assemblies.

Hello Stacey. If the old felt seal is not damaged or over stretched you can reuse it. You'll need to clean the drum of the old glue and install the seal on and glue it on. I'd recommend to get a new seal and the glue. Watch the repair help video that we have. Click on the part number AP3790434. Thank you.

Paul, This issue would most likely be caused by the rollers on the unit and getting the dryer repair kit would be the best way to get the roller.
