Since everything else seemed to be working, I decided that it was probably a faulty igniter causing this problem. After watching the dryer igniter and gas valve coils replacement videos, I ordered the dryer igniter kit, the gas valve coil kit and a dryer belt. Because my dryer was purchased in Sept. 2009, I figured it was a good idea to replace these parts while I had the machine apart. (my order was filled and shipped on Monday, and I received it before noon on Tuesday.) After replacing these parts, the dryer still had no heat.
I logged back on to AppliancePartsPros.com, and called the on line help, explained what I replaced, and asked for his advice. He explained that there are two thermostats and a thermal fuse that could be causing the problem. Again, I went to the video to locate and learn hoe to access these items. After removing the back cover of the dryer, I used a volt meter and checked the high limit thermostat, the cycle thermostat and the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse (an $8+ item) was the culprit.
MY ADVICE -- CHECK THE THERMAL FUSE AND THERMOSTATS FIRST
Also I couldn't separate the connection for the dryer door switch, so I detached the switch from the door panel by opening the door and removing the 2 screws.
