How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6014070 / WP9760774 Oven Broil Element

I was amazed how fast the new here. I watched the video and everything was going OK till I got to the final connection to take out. I pulled it out and the wire wasn't there, it had burned off. Now I have to pull out the wall mounted oven and repair it, or I may have a repairman take over now since it looked like there was a short. Wish I would have had a simple one, but it doesn't always work that way. The videos are great and helped in knowing what I had run into. One more thing, the directions to take the door off is easy in the install paperwork, but to put it back on - search youtube videos on reinstalling Kitchenaid oven door. 

No Code- is a kitchen aid double oven, I suppose it is known for this issue, don't know if it had been replaced before because it had a non standard screw in one of the four places. The main outer conduit contorted severely and melted into little hard continuous nodule sparks during cooking. Looked online for replacement and was very simple. One of the connectors did fall into the back when I pulled it out, thankfully retrieved with tweezers. Also, needed to tighten the connectors a tiny bit so that they had the same friction as previously to not fall off when replacing the connections behind the back wall. 

Replaced the heating element. Use small zip ties around the 4 wires before disconnecting the old element to keep them from falling behind the back oven wall once disconnected. It would turn the job into a much bigger job if a wires disappeared. 

Replaced the element - 10 minute job. This solved the slow to heat and lower than programmed temp. 

REPLACED THE BROILING ELEMENT 

Order replacement 

A new heating element was installed. 

Simple replacement I do suggest using zip ties around stove wires They have a tendency to slip behind the oven. Part arrived in good shape next day and it was 25% cheaper than the others. 

Removed door, tricky, removed 4 screws holding element in. Pulled out element and detached 4 flat blade connectors at rear. installed new element hooking wires back up and reattaching to roof of oven. Pretty simple job, just a little hard on the ole back, crouching in there to do the job. 

Ordered the replacement part at AppliancePartsPros.com, which was easy to identify and order. Watched the generic installation video (and read the service manual) which was helpful, especially the warning about the short wires behind the oven wall. Sure enough, despite careful preparation and caution, one of the 4 wire connections immediately separated before I could wrap a twist-tie around it and disappeared behind the wall. Tried to fish it out without success, so pulled the built-in oven out of the cabinet. Aligned the replacement element up to install and it didn't fit! Called APP to report the problem, and APP planned to ship a new element. Then learned that moving the mounting bracket on the element that It relaxed somewhat and was able to install it. Called APP the next business day to cancel replacement shipment. Oven fixed!
