How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6030108 / W10823707 Surface Heating Element (Cooktop)

I found a video on how to fix it. And I ordered the replacement burner. I have never tried anything like this before but I just retired and could not afford a professional.. I surprised myself after I replaced the burner. When I turned it on it actually worked. It was just a matter of unplugging the old one and plugging in the new one. Just make sure you take a photo of what it looks like before you unplug anything. So you have something to go by just in case you forget what goes where. 

Called you and ordered part .hung up phone ,went to bathroom ,came out, part at front of door.not that quick,but it sure seemed it.replaced burner myself,saved a lot of money. 

After flipping the stove top over, we noticed one corner of the connection unit to the large radiant burner was missing. This left the corner of the contact bare. Looking online we found your business and ordered a new radiant burner as the contact unit was a part of that burner. Placed the order and part arrived with the 2 day delivery time. Replaced the burner. Then proceeded to realign the cooktop to the stove. Then we tested all the burners. They all were active and the hot burner light did not light up until the burner was very hot. Turned off the burners and watched the hot burner light go out as it should when the burner cooled. SUCCESS! 

When I removed the glass I realized there was a disconnected wire. Just cleaned the connection and re-connected the wire and the burner worked. Need to return the one you sent me. As far as the other burner with the bad switch goes. I ordered the wrong switch. That will be returned to you also. Thank You, Tom P. 

We replaced the Surface Element. 

Open the front hatch door, look up, you can see 3 screws that hold the top. Unscrew them. Forgot to mention that you have to disconnect the power source first.in the back of the panel ,disconnect the white plug in.remove the panel.flip it upside down and unscrew the burnt element out.have ur new one same position like the old one.plug in the wire same way as the old one appeared. Follow the pattern of the mounting plate. Flip the panel back and reconnect the white plug in the back.slide the top to its place and screw it back to the range.plug back the main power source from the bottom of the unit and turn on that burner to check. Job done.

Followed the simple instructions and was done in 15 minutes. 

Before I start taking parts off I disconnect the stove and I turn all the knobs to make sure that nothing it's come on so I took the glass panel using a 1/4 socket before disconnecting the bad burner I put the new one right next to the old one and I start disconnecting wire one by one and connected to the new one in the same order when I finish wiring I put everything back the same way and it works just fine.
