How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6022801 / WPW10545255 Thermal Fuse

Pulled oven out tested thermal fuse with a meter, found fuse to be open. Order the replacement part, arrived the next day. Replaced part and it was fixed. The biggest hassle was getting the oven out of the wall, but after that everything went well. 

I changed it 

After checking that the Thermostat was good on the back of the oven, I checked the thermal fuse for the control panel, which turned out to be bad. Easy fix, removed the control panel (4 screws) and changed the fuse after testing the existing. Should note that the oven door was locked because the fuse failed during the cleaning cycle. I opened the door by sliding a hook-like tool between the oven and door moving right to left. 

REPLACED FUSE 

Looked online on how to fix, ordered the part from you. Part came in a day. Installed part and oven was repaired. 

After a quick online search, I determined the most likely issue was the thermal fuse had burned out. AppliancePartsPros had the exact item, and shipped it out same day. 

Called a repairmen and without seeing the oven he "diagnosed" the problem and said I needed to replace the control board for $350 plus $150 to install it. I researched on line and determined that a bad thermal fuse could result in a power loss to control panel. I checked the old fuse with a continuity tester. Ordered the new part, installed and the oven is working fine 

Did some research on my computer and found out the fuse may have blown. Ordered the replacement part, it came within 48 hours and replaced the new part and all is working well. 

Relatively easy repair. Shut off breaker, two screws (one on each side at midpoint) to pull oven 3/4 out from cabinet. To pull oven out open the door slightly and grip inside the oven. Used two stacked 2x6 to hold the front up after pulling it out. Metal cover full width of oven and 6" depth over wiring. Six or eight metal screws to remove including one on each side holding in a white disk. They come off together. Lift off the metal cover (mine hung on the bulged metal at one screw hole. Just pried out the cover very slightly to release it). The fuse is right at the front. Use snips to cut the black and white plastic retainers. Unplug the wires on each end and plug in the new fuse. I just pressed it gently down into the snipped retainers. Dont overtighten the metal screws when reinstalling the cover as they strip easily. 

Circuit breaker test and nothing. YouTube videos suggest circuit board fuse was dead. Kill power. Slid oven out onto table with power feed still connected. Take pictures of screw locations and wire connections. Removed top control box cover (9 Phillips screws) and locate inline fuse within clear tube just atop the circuit board; snip off cable ties holding fuse tube. Disconnecting StaKon terminals at each end of fuse assembly was difficult. Temporarily connect fuse wires and turn on power to confirm board still operational. Oven model number info just under front control panel. Sunday online ordered fuse assembly from AppliancePartsPros.com, received Wednesday morning and installed and thankfully operational by noon.
