How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP8072884 / W11805888 Gasket

My daughter and I replaced the worm gear by following the video instructions. Piece of cake and didn't even need the grease or the gasket. Hope to get another 25 years of use out of our Kitchen Aid. We love this mixer and use it constantly. One of the few products built to last these days! 

Found several You tube videos relating to the same problem, motor could be heard running but no action at the beater head. The cause was a fiber gear that works off a metal worm gear to operate the beater head, it had stripped, as I'm sure it was designed to do to protect the motor. Straight forward disassembly, you have to be prepared to drive out two different size drift pins on my model, but they come right out. Having an assortment of punches on hand helps. Lots of sticky grease in the mixer head so have some paper towels on hand. Use latex gloves if you have them. I also found a couple of popsicle sticks handy to move the grease away from where I needed to be working, and for picking the fragments of the fiber gear out of the grease. The grease seemed in good shape so I did not replace it.

Opened it up, found bad gear, removed all the old grease, put in new parts, added grease and buttoned it back up. Removing the old grease took some time, i wanted it all out in case of metal bits from old gear. The putting back together was easy but took a bit longer because I had help from 2, 6 year old girls. They learned things can be fixed and anyone can do it. 

I replaced both the worm gear and the hub gear. These are the gears that take the biggest beating. Lubed it all up and reassembled. Works like a new mixer. 

I thought it was making more noise then it should so I replaced the brushes, clean it up and re-greased the unit. Sound better and I learned to adjust the speed as it was about 3 rotations off from the recommended settings. The staff on line was great and made it easy to order parts. Thanks so much. Terry 

I followed the instructions in the appliance pro video. It was very easy, but a little greasy. I replaced the gasket just as a precaution. I used a screwdriver, a drift punch, and a hammer. 

Viewed an online video, cleaned out old grease, replaced w/new grease and gasket. 

Looked up on YouTube how to repair the unit. I took my mixer apart to verify the cause damaging the gasket. I ordered the gear and gasket from appliancepartspros. Parts came in as ordered and as promised. Repair went well. 

Ordered gears from you, followed YouTube video for assembly and disassembly. The steel gears just as easy as the nylon gear I’ve done before. Messy, of course, inside that gear box: disposable gloves, probably several pairs.
