How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6024199 / WPY503978 Heating Element

I replaced the heating element and also the belt. 

I replaced the heating element, the high limit fuse, the hi-limit thermostat, and 2 drum support rollers. 

Rather than try component by component diagnosis - as all three parts were over 20 years old and two were relatively cheap I decided to replace the high limit fuse/thermostat and the heating element at the same time. Parts arrived next day (even with basic shipping) and replacement took less than 30 minutes parts were a precise fit and apart from a few minutes rolling around on the floor to get access to them fitting was straight-forward. 

After checking to see if the thermal fuse was good, I then checked the heating element and found it had a break in the coil. Thanks to AppliancePartsPros.com's affordable price and availability, the job went quickly. They shipped it out in just a day and the part was an exact match which made the replacement very easy! 

Installed a new heat coil, belt, and thermal fuse. 

I ordered a new heating element and two other parts that attached to the heating element. I discovered a wire that broke off which caused the element not to work so I had to put a new female splicer on the broken wire then replaced the element and reattached the wires and everything worked. 

I ordered a heating element kit. 

Replaced heater element.
