How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6024142 / WPY055980 Appliance High-Temperature Adhesive

I searched previous forums describing the problem and found that the felt drum seal was worn. I watched the repair video before ordering to be sure I would be able to do it. Once the part arrived, I pulled up the repair video and folloed along, pausing as necessary. It was very easy to follow. The hardest part was not getting glue on the felt drum seal when trying to stretch it over the drum. Otherwise, it works great and saved a lot of money. I failed to notice in the picture that the drum seal came with the adhesive so I did not need to order the high temperature adhesive as well. 

I took it apart and gave a rebuild as far as anything that had to do with it squeaking. its fourteen years old and runs like a new one now. 

Took the front of the dryer off, then removed the front drum section(left the wirring on), removed old felt gasket, took a screwdriver to the tabs to open them up a little bit, slide the gasket in under the tabs and push them back down. On the tabs that are worn or gone I used the high temp adhesive. I let it sit for 2 hours for the glue to set. Put everything back together and it worked great. 

Re-glued the seal in place. Had a problem figuring out where to place the seal, since it didn't belong on the bottom of the door but on the base of the wash pan. 

I read online that the small marks were caused by a worn drum seal. It seems thinner fabrics (like shirts, sheets, etc.) can get wedged into the gap between the dryer wall and the drum and get marks. I bought a new seal from APP and referred to their video online. The repair process was exactly as it was shown in the video. I had to remove the dryer top and front, remove the drum, and take off the old seal. Then I scraped off the old adhesive and glued the new seal onto the drum. After letting the glue dry an hour, I re installed the drum. The only part that was a little difficult was balancing the drum in place to reattached the belt, but that was solved by enlisting a helper. The dryer works like new now. 

I found out that the felt seal on the back of the dryer drum was dirty and rust colored. Apparently the clothes were rubbing on it and becalmed stained. I pulled the drum out after watching a YouTube how-to video and replaced the felt seal. All I needed was the felt seal and the high temperature adhesive to glue it down. It was really easy and didn't take that long to repair myself. Problem solved!
