How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005973 / WP2180353 Ice Dispenser Chute Door

Replaced Whirlpool original ice maker (age 10+), replaced ice dispenser guide (very dirty), ice dispenser door (just because its original) & cleaned adjacent parts while door parts removed. The how to videos for every part ordered were extremely valuable, showing great videos of disassembly and reassembly process!! Thanks you AppliancePartsPros.com!!!!! After watching your video on how easy this repair was, I ordered a replacement door for the ice maker chute. As I was trying to attach the new door to the white hinged holder, (which was yellowed with an almost brown color are the snap attachment); that piece broke because it was brittle. I then reordered the door with the kit that included the broken hinge, the spring, and another door. It had a slight variation for the plunger that controls the door drop. This caused a problem with reassembly. I couldn’t reassemble in reverse how it was taken apart according to the video. Had to take off the water assembly and then insert the door assembly including the ice shoot as one piece and then add the water assembly. Long story, it worked and I’m trill not to having the ice dispenser freezing up due to the condensation caused by the leaking door. I’m n Louisiana, so we have lots of humidity! The parts ordered matched our refrigerator perfectly. Thanks! 

I found AppliancePartsPro.coms on YouTube. After watching several of Matt's videos pertaining to my refrigerator's issues, I went to their website and ordered parts. Matt's videos are dead-on precise and helped me change out the bad parts (water dispenser bracket, ice door and chute) without breaking anything else. I appreciate the small tips he includes like where to pry to remove a part. AppliancePartsPros.com is my new go-to for appliance repair. 

R&R door chute. 

Researched parts on site, identified correct parts and ordered them. Watched videos associated with each part. Parts received as advertised and repair went as video suggested. 

Three hex head screws and one electrical connection. Perfect fit. My ice door had three element wire connected. Like it was heated. New door didn't have this. I put it in anyway and it works fine. 

Replaced ice chute door. 

Replaced Ice Dispenser Chute Door, figured oh, what the heck, while I was at it, went ahead and replaced the Ice Guide, Ice Dispenser Lever, and Water Dispenser Lever. I wanted to replace the Ice Chute too, but no longer available. Spent 1/2 hour on the replacements, and the rest of the time cleaning out an old coffee spill that the previous owners had neglected to. 

Replaced the chute door. Took about 20 minutes. Only needed a putty knife to remove the front cover and a screwdriver. 

Replaced Ice dispenser chute door. Gasket was worn and distorted. After plate is removed, its a 2 minute job. It just clips in!!
