The Ice Dispenser Chute Door is an OEM part for Whirlpool refrigerators. This component is located in the ice dispenser mechanism on the freezer door and is responsible for opening and closing the ice chute. The chute door helps to dispense ice properly and prevents warm air from entering the freezer compartment, which can lead to frost buildup and inefficient cooling.

Symptoms of a failing Ice Dispenser Chute Door include:

  • Ice not dispensing properly or getting stuck in the chute
  • Frost or ice buildup around the ice dispenser area
  •  Warm air entering the freezer, causing temperature fluctuations
  • The dispenser door not opening or closing correctly, leading to gaps

Causes of a bad ice dispenser chute door can include wear and tear from regular use, damage from ice jams or blockages, and degradation of the door’s sealing mechanism over time.

This OEM part is also compatible with some models from Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore.

Note: This part longer uses the ribbon heater due to the improved foam design. If your refrigerator uses this ice door and the mounting tabs are broken, you can use the broken tab ice door kit 8201756.

For Whirlpool Ice Dispenser Chute Door (Part Number: OEM18017928)

Ken for Model Number GS6SHAXLB03

The video made it very easy to replace the door. One thing that was different on mine though, the cover had two screws underneath the drip tray instead of the clips shown in the video. Initially I tried to pry it with the putty knife but it was apparent that it would not come off. That was when I removed the drip tray and saw the screws. Thanks for the repair videos, between the fridge, washer and dryer you have saved me a ton of money in repairs.

Scott, Take the dispenser cover off and check to make sure that the bracket that holds the switch is not broken and that the ice door is not broken off the housing. If it is then replace the door 8201756 or if the bracket is broken replace WP2180226.

Scott, if the auger motor is activating when the paddle is pressed but no ice comes out, the door chute tabs would need to be inspected for any broken pieces. If there is a broken section of the door chute mounting, the broken tab kit 8201756 would need to be installed.

Keith for Model Number ED5FVGXWS

The ice dispenser work, but sometimes when I put a glass against the door to activate the ice to dispenser , it does not work You have to angle or maneuver your glass. Whatever mechanism that activates the ice to come out of out is extremely touchy. I don't known if its the Ice Dispenser Chute Door($12.29), the Ice Door Kit($66.73), or the Broken Tab Ice Door Kit($99.49). The water dispenser works fine. Somehow the tab or mechanism is not making good contact somewhere for the ice. Any information would be EXTREMELY helpful. Keith

Keith, You will want to open the dispenser by using a flat blade screwdriver under the trim at the bottom of the dispenser and pop the dispenser cover off. Check to make sure that the switch is not moving on the bracket. If it is moving when pushing the dispenser lever then this will be a bracket WP2180226 that would need to be replaced.

Hello Sandy, it does sound as if the ice chute flapper cannot fully seal to the end of the ice chute. There are several parts involved in opening/closing the flapper in the ice/water dispenser area. You may want to check the operation of the flapper, lever and other parts in that area.

Nikola, You will need to remove the panel off the door and behind it there will be a couple screws that you will remove to take the dispenser board off to get to the ice door.

Hello Allen. Make sure the freezer is between 0° and 5°. You need to check and see if there is power going to the water valve when the icemaker cycles. If so, replace the water valve on the unit. If not, or the icemaker does not cycle, you will need to replace the icemaker on the unit. Also, check and make sure the fill tube on the unit is not frozen and clogged. If so, replace the water valve and thaw out the fill tube. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html
