How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6016628 / WPW10190965 Refrigerator Ice Maker Kit

Replaced it in about 15 minutes with 1 ordered from Appliance Pros. 

Replaced the ice maker. 

Replaced icemaker. Went as easily as the video. The freezer space was narrower than video and I had to feel for one of the screws to lift the tabs off. Took about 20 minutes. Did have to use the old wiring harness. No problems 

This part was easy to install and worked within a few hours. No need for an expensive repair from the local appliance store. 

Replacement of ice maker 

Original ice maker was rusted and the paint was peeling off the mold. Ordered a new replacement locally but it was a 5 wire design. THIS ONE was the exact replacement, OEM, and the same cost after shipping. Installation was literally 5 min. Save yourself the trouble and just use OEM the first time. Ordered Tuesday, installed Thursday. You do have to reuse the wire on/off thing along with the front cover. 

Vacation home that sits vacant a lot, we always would empty the tub of ice but never get the ice mold a thought, I think after several years of water sitting in there till air drying which probably took weeks, just deteriorated the finish. Given the whole unit was cheaper than the ice mold itself I just replaced the whole unit. 3 screws and electrical connector, reuse front cover and metal on / off bar. In the video they show multiple harnesses coming with the part mine did not, but also my fridge did not have a second quick connector on fridge side, so I just unplugged my existing harness at the ice maker and plugged into the new one 

Replaced ice maker. Replacement part power cord was shorter than original so had to swap out old cord which was longer. Little tough to get to the bolts to remove although there were only three, used a mirror to help align socket. Other than that project when smooth. Fixed the issue and now I have ice again. Much cheaper then a repairman.
