We have a 12 year old whirlpool fridge (side by side) and it was struggling to make ice once i removed it i saw there was lots of calcium buildup around the rotator arm and rest of the ice maker

I removed the old unit by unscrewing the bottom retaining screw and loosening the bracket bolts. I disconnected it and removed it, saved the shut off arm and cover plate as the new unit didn't have them. For my situation I had to replaced it while I had it plugged which is not what your supposed to do, so I turned the fridge knobs to off hoping to not make a short. The fridge is in a laundry room and a very tight spot, where I would have to remove the doors of the fridge as well as an entry door, so I cautiously opted to do it while plugged in. The entire process took about 20 min only because it was a little difficult to get to one of the bracket bolts with my large hands and arms. Easy DIY job and we have a full ice bin now!

Ice maker stopped working

All indications were that this was a frozen water line. It would make ice for about half a day and then stop. I would point a blow dryer at the ice maker and line area for 10 minutes and I’d get another half day of weak ice production. My wife wanted a new refrigerator/freezer since the ice maker wasn’t cutting it. This was my last hope before throwing in the towel. It’s been 3 days of fresh ice continuously. Every time I hear ice drop in the bin it makes me smile. This is the happiest I’ve been with a home repair. Saved 2,000 by spending 75. I’m not handy. Had no clue what I was doing but the video was clear and walked me through it. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
