How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4009459 / 12001677 Washer Injector Valve And Nozzle Assembly

Read about people who had similar problem on APP.com, watched a few videos to learn how to open the washer and the position of the components. Then I opened my machine up, diagnosed it as an old and leaking aerator valve sleeve, ordered the part from APP.com and replaced it myself. Ordered stem seal and tub bearing kits also to be prepared for that fix in the future. The nex day. My wife did 3 loads of launders with not leakage! Thank You APP! 

Removed front panel (2 screws Phillips) Propped up front panel (2 screws 3/8 nut driver) loosened the front clamp (1/4 nut driver) and installed new part very easy thanks for helping me find it 

I replaced the anti- siphon valve 

I Googled and found a site called appliance-repair-it.com that seemed to describe my problem and had instructions I could follow to troubleshoot and then fix the problem. I determined that I needed to replace the old rubber sleeve in the air gap, which is located along the hose that fills the washer. The site directed me to the right parts on your site and when they arrived, I was able to replace the old parts easily. I was very proud of myself and my washer doesn't leak anymore. 

Initially thought water was backing up from discharge tube and running onto floor. Turned out to be injector nozzle was leaking and in bad shape. Replaced injector nozzle and problem solved. Takes about 20 minutes on old Maytag washer.

Locating the part involved some blind alleys, but in the end, I figured out which fasteners needed to be removed to get at the part. After that, locating the part on this website required poring over the parts diagrams for my washer and a process of elimination. I did not expect the part to be so cheap nor to arrive so promptly! Replacing the part was quick, since I was now familiar with the appliance. Simple replacement; works fine. 

Installed ordered parts. 

Removed front panel of washing machine, removed two screws from front, under the top of washer and tilted the top back. I exposed the injector system and removed the hose clamps and replaced the pieces in the same manner as they were removed. 

I used the pictures in the washer assembly drawing to identify the parts that were potentially causing the leak. After removing them I confirmed that they needed to be replaced. I ordered the parts and received them 3 days later. I did not request overnight delivery. It took about 5 minutes to replace the old parts and then ran the machine to confirm no leaks, then replaced the washer front panel. I have run ~ 5 loads with no leaks.
