How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4024203 / 203956 Damper Pad Kit

Replaced damper pads. 

Bought the right parts from your company and the information was right on thank you 

INSTALLED NEW DAMPER PADS WHICH STABILIZED THE WASHER DURING THE SPIN CYCLE. THE BRAKE WAS WEAK AND MADE SQUEAKING SOUNDS DURING THE WASH CYCLE, SO I ALSO REPLACED THAT AS WELL AS THE BEARING THAT HOLDS IT IN PLACE. REPLACED BOTH DRIVE BELTS EVEN THOUGH COMPARING THE OLD ONES WITH THE NEW ONES THE OLD ONES WERE FINE. VIDEOS PROVIDED BY APPLIANCEPARTSPROS.COM WERE A GREAT HELP. 

We replaced the Damper Pad Kit. 

Replaced the damper pads. The "How to" video was an excellent aid. 

The mounting stem was very loose. Replaced the mounting stem kit along with the tub bearing kit, which fixed the problem. 

Disassembled drum from chassis and found wear in casting at base. Used JB Weld epoxy to fill worn casting and sanded to existing contour. Replaced damper pads, added supplied lubricant and re-assembled. Added new belts and is working like a charm! 

Ordered new damper pads a high temperature adhesive from Appliance Parts Pros and got them the next day. I watched a YouTube video on how to replace old worn out pads and completed the project in a couple hours.

Hard to clean up the old adhesive with a wire brush due to limited access. Used acetone based finger nail remover to remove grease and adhesive in preparation to used the acetone based Maytag adhesive. Applying the adhesive was also a bit difficult because of limited access and sight. Ditto for the lubricant. Also replaced the hose, shown in the video after 36 years of use. 

Problems were on a very old (over 40 years) Maytag washer. With occasional maintenance, Maytags seem to last forever. Inlet injector and hose designs have changed slightly, and I had to modify the injector housing and use the old hose from injector to tub. No serious problems. If the old hose had been unusable I could have used the new one, but modifications would have been much more difficult (tub inlet port design has changed). Damper pad replacement was straightforward except for removing the brake. The special tool for brake removal is no longer available. After a fruitless search, I had to make my own version. The rest of the installation went well, but it would help if the kit included adhesive, or some indication of what sort of adhesive to use.
