How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP3179951 / 8193830 Dishwasher Door Latch

Replaced the latch and strike 

Purchased new switch panel circuit card, new latch and new latch striker. I will, and have, recommended Appliance Parts Pros to my friends. The on-line chat advice was great and the quick delivery with standard shipping was amazing. I repaired a dishwasher and a wall oven, saving myself at least $1500. 

Latch receiver and striker replaced. Easy repair took about 20 minutes. Watched a YouTube video first. We received high quality OEM parts. Works great. No instructions in package though. 

Dishwasher latch brook two days before Thanksgiving. Ordered the parts got them the next day. The repair was easy and the dishwasher was up and running for Thanksgiving. 

I was able to find a video showing how to replace the door latch and strike online. Total repair time was probably 20-30 minutes and pretty straightforward. Some of the Kitchen Aid doors are slightly different than the videos I saw online so just have to pay careful attention, but still a simple fix with the right tools. Need the Torx bit for door removal. 

Ordered the part from appliancepartpros.com, they have a good easily navigated website for the parts. 

Pulling it outt and looking at the broken plastic pieces, went on line and ordered up new ones. I was hoping they would be redesigned and more stout, but they will probably last as long as the originals(8 years) 

I replaced both the door latch and the door strike. I may have only needed one of the parts but this has happened before with our dishwasher and I wanted to assure success with the repair. 

Followed the video. Everything worked as shown. Very straight forward. 

New pump fixed draining issue immediately. Replaced the door latch and although it felt like a more secure catch afterwards it popped open too easily, like middle of wash cycle. Cleaned the door gasket, no change. Replaced the striker and it's fine so far. Thanks to the team here, they were very helpful. Videos were reassuring. I'm a pretty handy guy but the job was surprisingly easy with them. Try it, save money, feel accomplished!
