For Whirlpool Dishwasher Door Latch (Part Number: OEM9539862)

Kelly Woods for Model Number KUDS02FRBL0

I've read the other most helpful comments. Here is my scenario, I will let you determine what is needed. A few years ago I replaced the ropes that broke, or at least one did. I now have had an issue for a couple years of the cycle stopping at some point during wash. there is steam when it does complete, and I run the faucet next to washer before. The yellow Start light flashes, I open the door, hit the button and then close and it starts up again and finishes. 80% of the time. I have done series of buttons to do tests, it runs through and completes. I noticed one day when i leaned on or just barely touched the the handle, it stopped. this was the first time i thought it could be the striker or latch. i have always assumed it was heat related. after reading a question, i think it dates back to the rope replacement. could the hinges need replaced? i don't know how to adjust them. should i also replace the latch? i have shopped for new dishwashers and just like the one i have.

Kelly, For this issue, the door latch would be the most likely cause of the unit stopping mid cycle.

Mike, It is not common for the door to pop open when replacing the seal. A suggestion would be to push the door to latch and leave for a day or 2 to see if this will help to get the door to seat into the gasket better. You could also use a hair drier to see if heating the gasket will help to soften up the gasket to seal and the latch to engage better. If these do not work then this would likely be the latch that is faulty.

Amanda, There is a tech sheet behind the kickplate and would be recommended to put the unit into a diagnostic mode and see if errors pop up. This will guide you to what may be faulty. This could be an issue with something caught in the pump but should be popping an error code. Also check to make sure that the door switches are good.

Randy Q for Model Number KUDS01FLSS2

Our kitchen aid dishwasher door pops open while its running. mostly on the rinse cycle. I have read where the striker needs to be tight. the striker on our dish washer does not have screws that I can see holding it down. it does seem to be a little flimsy in the door jam. might need a shim? I have also read about leveling, we are spot on with leveling left to right. how about front to back? Should the dish washer be tilted slightly back ? How about the door latch ? Are there any adjustments there that we can make? thanks randy Q

1 Answer

Randy, The strike will hook into the bar that runs across the top. If it is loose you will want to try to make sure that it is securely in place. There are no adjustments on this and would likely be a issue with the latch assembly causing this issue. Also make sure that the strike is not bent.

Nick for Model Number KUDP02FRBL3

KUDP02FRBL3 Dishwasher. Have replaced door balance kit, both hinges, strike and the latch. Door still pops open toward the end of the cycle. Unit is level side to side and front to back. The door gasket looks and feels good. The front face of the frame of the machine does not appear to have been distorted. Any suggestions? Is there a way to increase the pressure between the top of the door and the front of the dishwasher by adjusting the springs or some other component?

1 Answer

Nick, Unfortunately there is no adjustment to the springs or any other component. The only part that may be able to (but does not appear to) would be be the strike assembly. Maybe try bending it downward slightly if there is not forward back adjustment.
