How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP6005968 / WP2180259 Lever, Ice Dispenser (Wht)

Replaced water and ice dispenser levers. 

I replaced the ice dispenser lever, chute and the ice door. 

Replaced broken retainer. While I was at it, I replaced both dispenser levers and ice door because of discoloration and age. 

I installed the broken tab kit. The previous owners had removed the parts, so I had to rely on the repair kit instructions. The pictures were almost useless and some of the written instructions were vague. At least the instruction showed the order of installation. Put some tape around the outer bracket too keep the tools from scratching the finish as you pry it off. It is quite of force to pop the bracket off the freezer door and not break something. The first problem was it was impossible to know which tab to break off. I broke off both tabs with the holes in them. The last in vital to keep the hinge from working loose. The metal bracket was very difficult to install. On the right side of the bracket there is adhesive on 2 planes. The lower adhesive tends to stick to the back wall before it before it adheres to the top. As a result the bracket slopes down on the right and it made for a lot of fiddling to make for a lot of fiddling to get the ice door to close properly. Because of the thickness of the metal plate you will need to file the top of the paddle bracket to insure the tabs that open the ice door are below the lip of the ice chute. The paddle spring was a pain and I use tape to hold the screw for installation. You need a piece of string attached to the hinge spring(ice door) and threaded over the paddle in order get the spring to sit against the bracket. Insure the head of the hinge is on the same side as the last tab.

Using the instructional videos- provided by appliancepartspro- made the installation of the new pieces very easy.
