How to Troubleshoot & Replace Whirlpool AP4024008 / 207843 Transmission Lower Lip Seal

While trying to remove tub seal hub (which came off in six pieces I call it a "TOUGH" hub) I accidentally cracked the outside tub. I have received the new HT transmission which came with a new tub seal kit PN W102119156. I ordered a seal kit when I ordered the transmission not knowing it came with a tub seal. I also ordered an outside tub it is on manufacture back order. AppliancePartsPros.com is keeping me up to date on the back order part, The hub was the hardest part to remove. The video's were very helpful and I received the in stock parts in only 2 days, that's fantastic! This washing machine is a Maytag Atlantis which is 12 years old have never had one problem with it until now. Perfectly! Replacing Agitator Shaft is not for the faint of heart. Replacing output shaft pinion gear on the bottom of the agitator shaft requires care, experience and patience with pressing/driving drift pins without damaging the gear itself. One slip of the drift/punch or press apparatus will ruin the gear/teeth face and will lead to failure of the transmission internally when put back into service. As best as I can tell the pinion gear is discontinued and no longer available so take care! Be sure to replace all seals, gaskets and transmission oil for a comprehensive long term repair. I'm sure a new tub bearing and stem repair kit will also be in order if your making this repair. Best of luck everyone! 

I suspected the main bearing had worn out, and I was right. It is a difficult job, because I am retired, I had the time. During disassembly, I found the hub had rusted really bad, it needed replacement. I did not buy special tools. The manufacturer repair manual says to use three OEM tools, I made some tools with wood. Simon's video is a big help. Now the washer is quiet, time will tell how good a job I did. This is the first time I opened up a washer, the second time would be much easier. 

I ordered a new drain pump, transmission seal and belt. I received my parts on the second day after I ordered them. Remove old pump and belts and transmission seal. Cleaned up all of the grease the the transmission had slung all over the bottom of the washer. Getting the brake asm. off to get to the seal was tricky since the special wrench is no longer available. But I was able to tap on it with a mallet and punch and get it to spin off and tighten it back the same way.The pump and belt were more straight forward of just remove and replace with new parts. 

Replaced seal and went ahead and changed tub kit and seal while I had it down. 

Bottom pulley fell off during spin cycle, breaking washer - st, and started leaking oil from tranny. Fixed it exactly the way you show on your video. Already owned the brake wrench tool.
